Dive-resistant suspension for a snow machine

A dive-resistant suspension for a snow machine having a ski assembly and a body has a swing arm and a resilient member that biases the swing arm downward relative to the body. The swing arm has a first rigid linkage and a second rigid linkage. The first rigid linkage has a first pivot point connected to the body of the snow machine and a second pivot point connected to the ski column. The second rigid linkage has a first pivot point connected to the body of the snow machine and a second pivot point connected to the ski column. The swing arm defines a travel path of the ski assembly as the swing arm moves between an operative position and a retracted position. In a first portion of the travel path, the ski assembly moves from the operative position forward and up relative to the body of the snow machine.

The front suspension assembly comprises a front lower rocker arm, a front upper rocker arm, and a front wheel shaft support assembly mounted between the front lower and the front upper rocker arms. The front torsion bar assembly is located above the front upper rocker arm, and is movably connected to the front upper rocker arm. The rear suspension assembly comprises a rear lower rocker arm, a rear upper rocker arm, a control arm assembly, and a rear wheel shaft support assembly mounted between the rear lower and rear upper rocker arms. The rear torsion bar assembly is located between the rear upper and lower rocker arms, and is movably connected to the rear upper rocker arm.

Suspension system

A suspension system configured to sit substantially within the profile of a vehicle platform such that none of the elements extend substantially above the plane of the vehicle platform. The suspension system may utilize an adaptable transverse leaf spring in combination with other suspension elements, to allow the vehicle platform to maintain a generally flat profile and accommodate a variety of different body like structures while maintaining the desired roll and ride stability stiffness.

The upper suspension arm is pivotally coupled to the vehicle frame about first and second upper pivot points. The lower suspension arm is pivotally coupled to the vehicle frame about first and second lower pivot points. The sway bar is attached to the upper suspension arm and located above the upper suspension arm. The rack and pinion steering arranged between the upper and lower suspension arms. The rack and pinion steering is located adjacent the second upper pivot point and between the first and second upper pivot points with respect to a longitudinal vehicle direction.
