A device for drying and polishing items such as glasses and cutlery, the device including an enclosure having apertures through which an end of the items can be inserted; a plurality of movable cleaning elements within the enclosure for drying and/or polishing the items; and a selectively operable steam distribution system for applying steam within the enclosure to at least one of the cleaning elements and/or the items, whereby the cleaning elements dry or polish the items, wherein the steam distribution system is operable on insertion of an end of said items into the enclosure.

Disclosed is a washing pump for spraying washing water or steam to wash dishes or cooking appliances, and a dishwasher including the same. The washing pump according to the present invention includes: a housing; a partition wall which is vertically divides an inner space of the housing; an impeller which is rotatably disposed over the partition wall in the housing to cause washing water to flow; a heater which is disposed under the partition wall to heat the washing water in the housing so as to generate steam; and a steam discharge pipe which is disposed over the partition wall to discharge the steam, generated by the heater, to an outside of the housing. The control method includes supplying water to a first chamber (C1), turning a heater (83) on, wherein power is supplied to the heater (83) to heat the heater (83) at a third temperature so as to generate steam, preventing overheating, wherein power supplied to the heater is cut at a first temperature so as to prevent overheating of the heater, and determining scale, wherein power supplied to the heater (83) is cut at a second temperature lower than the first temperature and then is resupplied after a predetermined time so as to prevent malfunction of the overheating prevention, wherein, when a time interval for the temperature of the heater to rise from the third temperature to the first temperature is within a predetermined time, determining scale is not performed.

Disclosed is a control method of a dishwasher (100) including a tub (2) for receiving objects to be washed, a plurality of spray arms (711, 713, 715) for spraying wash water to the objects, and a steam nozzle (42) for spraying steam to the objects, the control method including a main washing cycle of washing the objects, a rinsing cycle of rinsing the washed objects using wash water, and a drying cycle of drying the objects after the rinsing is completed, wherein the drying cycle includes spraying steam, received from a steam source, to the objects to increase a temperature of the objects (a steam spraying step) and resupplying water to the steam source in order to prevent the steam source from being heated after the steam spraying step (a cooling step).

A dishwasher according to an embodiment of the disclosure includes a main body, a tub disposed inside the main body, having a washing chamber formed therein, and having an opening at a front side thereof, a basket configured to be rotatable in a first or second direction inside the tub, a driver configured to supply power to rotate the basket, and a door configured to be rotatable in the first direction based on a rotation of the basket in the first direction so as to open or close the opening of the tub.
