Method for adjusting an exposure of an endoscope

Methods, endoscopic systems, and non-transitory, machine-readable storage media for adjusting an exposure of an endoscopic system are described. In an embodiment, the methods include emitting light with a light source into a proximal end of an endoscope light pipe; generating received light signals with a photodetector based on light received through the endoscope light pipe by the photodetector; displaying, with a display module, images based on the received light signals having a current image brightness; monitoring the received light signals for changes to the current image brightness; and adjusting a light source illuminance level, and in some embodiments a photodetector gain and exposure time, based on the current image brightness to maintain a target image brightness of the display module. In an embodiment, a brightness adjustment step size is less than a just-noticeable difference in brightness of an eye and is directly proportional to the current image brightness.

TIP HOUSING FOR AN ENDOSCOPE WITH A COATED WALL SURFACE

A method for manufacturing an endoscope having a tip housing may comprise the steps of moulding at least one tip housing for an endoscope by injection moulding or by multi shot injection moulding. Each tip housing may comprise an integrally formed wall defining an interior cavity and a proximal opening providing access to the interior cavity. The wall may comprise a longitudinally extending side wall portion, a distal end wall portion, and a window portion. The window portion may consist essentially of a transparent first material and form part of the side wall portion and/or the distal end wall portion. The wall may further comprise a wall surface facing the exterior of the tip housing and having a window surface of the window portion and a distally facing end surface of the distal end wall portion. The method may further comprise positioning the at least one tip housing in a treatment chamber; and applying, in the treatment chamber, a treatment formulation to provide a coating on at least the wall surface.

A support device for an endoscope comprises a tubular member configured for removable attachment to an outer surface of the endoscope near, or at, its distal end and a plurality of projecting elements extending outward from the outer surface of the tubular member and circumferentially spaced from each other. The device includes an optically transparent cover coupled to the tubular member and configured for covering the distal end of the endoscope when the tubular member is attached to the outer surface of the endoscope. The projecting elements provide support for the endoscope, improve visualization and center the scope as it passes through a body lumen, such as the colon. In addition, the cover seals the distal end of the endoscope to protect the scope and its components from debris, fluid, pathogens and other biomatter.
