An apparatus is provided for monitoring a baby in a rear facing baby seat. That apparatus includes a headrest, a mirror carried on the headrest and a control module. The control module is configured to adjust the orientation or position of the mirror about a first axis and a second axis to allow the best possible viewing of the baby. A related method is also disclosed.

A motor vehicle includes a display screen viewable by a driver of the motor vehicle. A rearview camera captures images of a scene behind the motor vehicle. Means provides video data indicative of a passenger compartment of the motor vehicle as viewed in a rearward direction. An electronic processor is communicatively coupled to the display screen, the rearview camera, and the providing means. The electronic processor provides video content presented on the display screen. The video content is based on the images captured by the rearview camera and on the video data.

A vehicle occupant viewing system and a corresponding method for displaying a vehicle occupant on an image display unit. The system may comprise one or more vehicle interior cameras for obtaining occupant images of one or more occupants in rear seats of the vehicle. The system may include two vehicle interior cameras, one in a forward facing orientation and another in a rear facing orientation, which can capture occupant images of occupants in forward facing positions and occupants in rear facing positions such as infants in car seats. The system may also include one or more modular vehicle interior cameras that are moveable between various orientations in order to capture occupant images of either forward or rear facing passengers. Adjustments can be made to display the occupant images to the driver in a more intuitive arrangement.

The mirror head includes a mirror casing and a mirror reflective element. The interior rearview mirror assembly includes an image processor for processing image data. The interior rearview mirror assembly includes a display for displaying images captured by the cameras. The image processor, responsive to receiving the aggregated image data transferred from the multiplexor, displays at the video display video images derived at least in part from the aggregated image data.

The present invention is directed to a system and methods of monitoring a child seated in the rear seat of a vehicle in a child's car seat employing a video camera which transmits a video signal to a video display receiver placed in the driver's frame of vision. The video camera as envisioned herein is placed within a child's stuffed toy, the camera signal being transmitted remotely to a separate video display monitor screen device, viewable to the parent driving the vehicle. The camera is adjustable in the number of positions in which it is placed in the vehicle compartment as well as the direction in which the camera is directed. To adjust the direction in which the camera is pointed, the invention includes a bendable, flexible and sturdy neck that interconnects the camera to a transmission unit, which provides the driver with a view of the child.
