Vehicle Safety Guard System with Height Adjustment

A safety guard attached to and extending down from a body portion of a vehicle can pivot against a biasing force relative to the body portion if the safety guard engages an animate or inanimate object. In addition, the safety guard is mounted for vertical movement relative to the vehicle body and a support surface for the vehicle, with the vertical movement being selectively performed by an operator of the vehicle or automatically based on sensor inputs used to assess road and/or vehicle operating conditions.

Controlled panel deformation

An object includes an internal support and an exterior portion coupled to the internal support. A deformation portion includes a top portion and a bottom portion, and a force imparted to a first location of the exterior portion causes the bottom portion of the deformation portion to contact the exterior portion. The contact causes a deformation of the exterior portion that moves a second location of the exterior portion downward relative to the first location.

An underride collision protection system for a truck. In one example, a rear bumper brace guard is attached to a truck body and extends a rear bumper toward and connects it to the side edge of the truck. A front panel bracket is also attached to the truck body. A fabric side underride guard panel has a front end and a rear end. The front panel bracket and the rear bumper guard hold the fabric side underride guard panel into place at the front end and rear end respectively. A stretching mechanism pulls the side underride guard panel taut between the front end and the rear end. This abstract is not to be considered limiting, since other embodiments may deviate from the features described in this abstract.
