Method and apparatus for illuminating an object field imaged by an image sensor
An illuminator apparatus and method for illuminating an object field imaged by a rectangular image sensor having a first aspect ratio is disclosed. The apparatus includes an optical fiber having a proximal end disposed to receive a plurality of input light beams, each light beam having differing spectral properties, the optical fiber being operable to transmit the light beams along the fiber to a distal end of the optical fiber. The apparatus also includes an integrating element disposed to receive the light beams from the distal end of the fiber and combine the light beams to produce a generally homogenous illumination beam at a rectangular output face of the integrating element. The apparatus further includes an illumination projector operable to project an image of the output face of the integrating element into the object field to produce a generally rectangular illuminated region of the object field substantially corresponding to the portion of the object field imaged by the rectangular image sensor.
System and method for enhanced data analysis with specialized video enabled software tools for medical environments
Medical software tools platforms utilize a surgical display to provide access to specific medical software tools, such as medically-oriented applications or widgets, that can assist surgeons or surgical team in performing various procedures. In particular, an endoscopic camera may register the momentary rise in the optical signature reflected from a tissue surface and in turn transmit it to a medical image processing system which can also receive patient heart rate data and display relevant anomalies. Changes in various spectral components and the speed at which they change in relation to a source of stimulus (heartbeat, breathing, light source modulation, etc.) may indicate the arrival of blood, contrast agents or oxygen absorption. Combinations of these may indicate various states of differing disease or margins of tumors, and so forth. Also, changes in temperatures, physical dimensions, pressures, photoacoustic pressures and the rate of change may indicate tissue anomalies in comparison to historic values.
Endoscope system and operation method therefor
In an endoscope system, a frame adjustment unit makes a frame adjustment for changing the number of frames to be displayed per unit time (frame rate) for a normal image and for a computational image on the basis of a computational processing time detected by a computational processing time detection unit and an amount of motion detected by a motion detection unit. A display control unit determines a display method for the normal image and the computational image on the basis of the amount of motion, and the normal image and the computational image are displayed on a monitor in accordance with the display method.
Instrument insertion system, method, and apparatus for performing medical procedures
In some embodiments, an insertion device for a single port robotic surgery apparatus includes a plurality of instrument channels positioned in an interior of a housing and extending along substantially an entire length of the housing, the plurality of instrument channels configured to removably house a plurality of surgical instruments, a plurality of openings in a rear exterior surface of the housing, the plurality of openings providing access to the plurality of instrument channels and configured to facilitate insertion of the plurality of surgical instruments into the plurality of instrument channels, and an illumination device supported at least partially at the rear exterior surface of the housing and positioned proximal to the plurality of openings, the illumination device configured to illuminate the openings to facilitate insertion of the plurality of instruments through the plurality of openings.
Marchand advanced single port hysterectomy—a laparoscopic surgical technique
This disclosure is relative to the field of laparoscopic surgery and gynecologic surgery. Specifically disclosed is a surgical technique for laparoscopic hysterectomy and bilateral salpingectomy-oophorectomy which encompasses dissection and removal of the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. The technique utilizes a single-entry port located at the umbilicus in conjunction with access through the vaginal opening to access and manipulate the organs within the abdominal cavity.
ENDOSCOPIC INSTRUMENT FOR OPHTHALMIC SURGERY
A surgical instrument comprises an elongate probe, in which the probe comprises an endoscope and a treatment channel. In some embodiments, the endoscope comprises a lens, in which the treatment channel extends through the distal end of the lens, which can facilitate alignment of the probe with a target tissue. In some embodiments, the treatment channel and the endoscope may comprise a co-axial configuration, which can decrease parallax when a user views the distal end of the working channel and target tissue beyond the distal end. Alternatively, the probe may comprise lenses arranged to provide stereoscopic vision of the end of the probe. The treatment channel may comprise an optical fiber to deliver light energy or a working channel. The treatment channel may comprise a housing such as a tube extending from the endoscope, in which the endoscope is configured to image the end of the treatment channel.
A MODULAR SYSTEM FOR MONITORING AND CONTROLLING THE HOMEOSTASIS IN CAVITIES, AND A METHOD FOR GENERATING A VOLUME OF FLUID IN A CAVITY
The system comprises an intracavity device with an insertable portion having on its outer surface a sensor module which comprises at least a sensor of temperature, humidity or both; a second group of sensors comprising at least a volume sensor, a pressure sensor or both, wherein the fluid flows through the volume and/or pressure sensors; a fluid insufflation module; and a monitoring and control of the homeostasis module connected to the sensor module and to the second group of sensors and which comprises a processing unit.
The method comprises insufflating fluid into the cavity, to maintain a working volume and maintain the homeostasis of the cavity in a continuous manner, in particular the distensibility, temperature and humidity.
MEDICAL SUPPORT ARM AND MEDICAL SYSTEM
A medical support arm includes: a support arm that supports an endoscope; an arm control unit that is configured to cause the support arm to perform a plurality of different interference avoidance operations for avoiding an interference between the endoscope and a surgical tool while maintaining a state in which an objective lens of the endoscope is directed to an observation target; and a determination unit that determines a combination of operation amounts of the plurality of interference avoidance operations.
Imaging probe housing with fluid flushing
An imaging probe for use in a catheter for ultrasonic imaging is provided. The imaging probe includes a transducer backing and a transducer configured to generate and receive ultrasonic waves. The transducer includes a first surface and a second surface that is opposite the first surface. The first surface faces the transducer backing and the second surface is disposed at an angle sloping toward a catheter center axis in a proximal direction.
Insertable robot for minimally invasive surgery
An insertable robot for minimally invasive surgery includes a tube array having a guide tube housed within a straightening tube. The guide tube includes a curved working end. The guide tube may be axially translated and rotated relative to the straightening tube such that the curved working end is constrained inside the straightening tube, causing the curved working end to achieve a smaller dimension. The tube array is inserted into a working channel on an endoscope, resectoscope or trocar. Once the tube array is inserted, the curved working end of the guide tube is translated forward beyond the distal end of the working channel, allowing the curved working end to return to its pre-formed shape. A surgical tool is inserted through the guide tube for an operation. The straightening tube allows the guide tube curved working end to be temporarily straightened during insertion and removal of the tube array.
