The controller is programmed to, in response to regenerative braking via an electric machine and an absence of friction braking, transition or maintain the active grill shutters to or in a closed position. The controller is further programmed to, in response to friction braking, transition or maintain the active grill shutters to or in the open position.

The energy storage system includes a shaft, a rotor secured to the shaft, a stator extending around the rotor, and a flywheel coupled to the shaft for rotation therewith. In the first mode, rotation of the motors causes rotation of the flywheel to store kinetic energy. In the second mode, rotation of the rotor and the flywheel discharges kinetic energy to drive the motors.

The first end is fixedly coupled to the base, and the second end is mounted with a rotatable support wheel. The braking device is installed at the second end of at least one of the connecting rods. The braking device includes a transmission shaft coupled to the support wheel. The braking device controls the support wheel to stop rotating by stopping the transmission shaft from rotating.
