A reverse assist system for a saddle riding vehicle includes a switch configured to be displaced between a first position and a second position. The switch is displaced to the second position to activate a reverse assist strategy. The reverse assist system also includes a sensing unit to determine at least one of a speed or an acceleration of the saddle riding vehicle, and a controller arranged in communication with the switch, the sensing unit, and a front brake. The controller is configured to activate the reverse assist strategy in response to the displacement of the switch to the second position, and control the front brake to control braking of a front wheel based on at least one of the speed or the acceleration of the saddle riding vehicle to assist a rider to reverse the saddle riding vehicle according to the reverse assist strategy.

Standstill data is received, while the vehicle is traveling in the at least semiautomated manner on an incline and/or a decline, when a temporary standstill of the vehicle is requested by the assistance system. Speed values are continuously received that describe a speed of the vehicle while the vehicle is decelerating prior to the temporary standstill. Slope data is continuously determined that describes an angle of the incline or decline. An amended speed value is continuously computed that depends on the speed value and the slope data. An electronic control signal is output to control the braking torque to bring the vehicle to the temporary standstill when the amended speed value decreases below a predetermined threshold value and the standstill data are received.

A system and method are provided for brake temperature estimation of a trailer. The incline of the surface along which the trailer is being towed is sensed, as well as a brake line pressure to the trailer and the speed. A braking count is derived from braking time periods and a downhill count is derived from downhill driving time periods. An indicator of the brake temperature is then based on the braking count and the downhill count.
