A traveling control apparatus includes an operation amount calculating unit for calculating the amount of operations for controlling at least one of a driving mechanism and a braking mechanism of a vehicle to make the difference between a target position and the actual position of the vehicle small; a determining unit for determining whether the actual position follows the target position; and a target position setting unit for setting the target position that changes with time passage, when it is determined by the determining unit that the actual position follows the target position. The target position setting unit sets the target position so a change in the target position with the time passage becomes smaller than that in the case where it is determined that the actual position follows the target position, when it is determined by the determining unit that the actual position does not follow the target position.

Systems and methods are disclosed for controlling operations of autonomous vehicles and systems in, for example, logistics yards at distribution, manufacturing, processing and/or other centers for the transfer of goods, materials, and/or other cargo. In some embodiments, an autonomous yard tractor or other vehicle can include one or more systems for locating an over-the-road trailer parked in a yard of a distribution center, engaging the trailer, and moving the trailer to a loading dock for loading/unloading operations in accordance with a workflow procedure provided by a central control system. In other embodiments, an autonomous yard tractor can locate the trailer at the loading dock after the loading/unloading operations, engage the trailer, and move the trailer to a parking location in the yard. In some embodiments, the autonomous yard tractor can include a sensor system configured to detect the position of the trailer relative to, for example, the tractor, and/or the dock station can include a sensor system configured to detect the position of the trailer relative to, for example, the dock station during a docking procedure.

Methods and systems of braking a vehicle. One method includes determining, with a first electronic processor, whether the vehicle is in a collision state or a non-collision state. The method also includes determining, with the first electronic processor, an amount of deceleration needed to avoid a collision with a first object. The method also includes determining, with a second electronic processor, whether an electronic parking brake has been activated. Responsive to determining that the electronic parking brake is activated and the vehicle is in the collision state, the method also includes controlling, with the second electronic processor, the electronic parking brake to provide an amount of deceleration of the vehicle based on the amount of deceleration needed to avoid a collision with a first object and a predetermined maximum amount of deceleration of the electronic parking brake.
Method for assisting a driver of a motor vehicle
In a method for assisting a driver of a motor vehicle in a driving maneuver, the surroundings of the vehicle are recorded, and it is checked whether at least one object is located in the surroundings of the vehicle, and it is ascertained subsequently whether the vehicle is approaching the object, and a warning to the driver is output if the vehicle approaches the object up to a critical distance. The driver is warned by a warning jerk, and after the warning jerk has taken place, the speed of the vehicle is automatically reduced.

An acoustic feedback system includes a memory and processor to receive at least one of a plurality of output signals from a plurality of sensors. The system determines whether an output signal has reached a first threshold, and sends an audible sound signal to a speaker(s) based on the first threshold. Thus, the acoustic feedback system utilizes output signals of various vehicle sensors and generates audible signals based on the sensor output signals.

An adaptive brake control system for use in Ground Support Equipment (GSE) including a speed control system. The adaptive brake control system includes a distance sensor adapted to measure a distance from an edge of the GSE to an external object and a speed senor adapted to measure a ground speed of the GSE. An actuator, such as a brake actuator, is adapted to cause the speed control system of the GSE to slow or stop the GSE. A controller is functionally associated with the distance sensor, the speed sensor, and the actuator. The controller is adapted to receive inputs from the distance sensor and the speed sensor, and, based on the received inputs, to trigger the actuator to affect slowing or stopping of the GSE.

According to at least one embodiment, the present disclosure provides an apparatus for controlling braking of a vehicle to cause the vehicle to follow a target route generated in advance, including a biased braking control initiating unit configured to determine whether the target route satisfies a condition for initiating biased braking control, a biased braking amount determining unit configured to determine a ratio of a braking pressure to be applied to respective wheels of the vehicle based on the target route in response to determining that the target route satisfies the condition for initiating the biased braking control, and a control unit configured to perform braking control of the vehicle based on the ratio of the braking pressure.

A parking assistance system includes: a color/IR detector which detects, from a camera image captured with a camera, marker candidates that are areas in each of which an intensity of a color component or an infrared (IR) component exceeds a threshold; a marker position calculator which calculates positions of the marker candidates in the camera image; and a validity verifier which determines whether the marker candidates are valid as the markers, based on the positions of the marker candidates and a predetermined positional relationship of the markers.
