Methods for transitioning a braking system between primary and fallback modes are provided. A method in accordance with the present disclosure may include identifying a failure in the functionality of the primary braking system, and, upon identifying the failure, mitigating an abrupt increase in a pedal travel distance required to brake or otherwise decelerate the vehicle so as to provide smooth transition from a primary braking mode to a fallback braking mode. The mitigating the increase in the pedal travel distance may include initiating a transition to the fallback braking mode, activating at least one of a plurality of transition braking modes, and gradually increasing the pedal travel distance by deactivating at least one of the previously activated transition braking modes.

System and method for controlling torque to a driveshaft

A controller comprises a memory, including a maximum rated driveshaft torque for a driveshaft on a vehicle, and an electrical output transmitting an output signal for limiting a torque on the driveshaft of the vehicle during an event while the vehicle is attempting to at least one of maintain and increase velocity. The torque on the driveshaft is limited by controlling braking pressure to at least one brake associated with driven wheels and/or controlling motor torque delivered to the driveshaft.

System and method for vehicle stop control

A system and a method for vehicle stop control are operable such that when it is detected that a vehicle is driving in a direction opposite to the direction of a current gear stage of the vehicle, the driver is warned and the vehicle enters an emergency braking state so as to reduce the risk of an accident and improve stability of a braking system. The vehicle stop control method performed by a controller of the vehicle includes steps of: converting vehicle driving environment information into data to be used as system input information; checking whether a controller related to each of driving and braking systems of the vehicle operates normally; determining whether the vehicle is driving in a reverse direction; and performing vehicle emergency stop control when the vehicle is driving in the reverse direction.

Trailer brake control system

A trailer braking system comprises a vehicles having a continuously-variable hydrostatic transmission, and a trailer coupled for towing by the vehicle and having an associated braking system operable from the vehicle. The vehicle transmission includes a first pressure sensor arranged to measure a fluid pressure at a predetermined point within the transmission, and a rotation sensor arranged to determine a rotation direction of a predetermined component in a driveline of the vehicle. A control unit coupled to the first pressure sensor and rotation sensor determines when a PUSH condition exists based on a particular combination of pressure and rotational direction, and operates the trailer brakes in response. One or more back-up systems to confirm the existence of a PUSH condition may be provided.

System and method to improve engagement shift quality in automatic transmissions using engagement brake torque control

A method of controlling a vehicle includes, in response to vehicle speed being approximately zero and a driver braking torque request being greater than a park interlock threshold, commanding vehicle brakes to provide an augmented braking torque. The augmented braking torque has a magnitude that is greater than the magnitude of the braking torque request. A stopping control apparatus for a vehicle includes: a braking apparatus; a gear-type automatic transmission installed in a powertrain; and a control device configured to control the braking apparatus and the automatic transmission. The control device is configured to shift, after a vehicle transitions from a travel state to a stop state, a range of the automatic transmission to a P range under a state where the braking force applied to wheels is a braking force for maintaining the vehicle in the stop state, and then reduce the braking force applied to the wheels. The control device is configured to change a decrease rate of the braking force such that the decrease rate after a time point at which a predetermined period has elapsed from a start of a decrease in the braking force is less than the decrease rate before the time point.

Dynamic current compensation

A method for characterizing a fluid control solenoid with current compensation is described. A current command is sent to the fluid control solenoid. The current command indicates a desired current value related to a desired fluid output pressure to be applied to the solenoid. An actual fluid output pressure is measured at a valve associated with the fluid control solenoid for the desired current value applied to the solenoid. An actual current received value at the fluid control solenoid is also measured. Post processing is then applied. A compensated current value related to the actual fluid output pressure is determined based on a difference between the current command and the actual current received value. Methods for dynamic current compensation are also described.
