Electric brake and control device

An electric brake comprises a brake mechanism that transmits a thrust generated by driving an electric motor to a piston that moves brake pads pressed against a disc rotor; a thrust sensor that detects the thrust applied to the piston; a rotation angle sensor that detects a rotational position of the electric motor; and a rear electric brake ECU that controls the driving of the electric motor on the basis of a braking command. The rear electric brake ECU detects an abnormality in the brake mechanism from a detected value of the thrust sensor and a detected value of the rotation angle sensor in response to the braking command which are obtained when the electric motor is driven.

A brake system with a wheel brake has a fluid reservoir and a valve assembly in fluid communication with the reservoir via a first conduit. The valve assembly is in fluid communication with the wheel brake via a second conduit. The valve assembly includes a bypass valve which only permits fluid flow from the first conduit to the second conduit when the fluid pressure within the first conduit is above a predetermined pressure level above atmospheric pressure. The valve assembly further includes a check valve in a parallel path arrangement relative to the bypass valve such that the check valve permits fluid flow from the second conduit to the first conduit, and prevents fluid flow from the first conduit to the second conduit. The brake system further includes a first source of pressurized fluid providing fluid pressure for actuating the wheel brake, wherein the first source of pressurized fluid is selectively in fluid communication with the second conduit.

When an ON operation of an electric parking brake apparatus is performed when a vehicle is moving, a vehicle brake control apparatus executes an EPB stop process in order to stop the vehicle by braking force generated by a hydraulic brake apparatus. If a hydraulic brake malfunction wheel, at which the hydraulic brake apparatus cannot generate braking force properly, is detected during a time period from the beginning of the EPB stop process to the stop of said vehicle, the vehicle brake control apparatus makes the hydraulic brake apparatus stop generating braking force at wheels including the hydraulic brake malfunction wheel. Meanwhile, the vehicle brake control apparatus makes the electric parking brake apparatus start generating braking force at a rear wheel. Subsequently, the vehicle brake control apparatus makes the electric parking brake apparatus start generating braking force to the other rear wheel.
