Suspension System with On-Demand Full Damper Capacity

A suspension control system for a vehicle may include a plurality of adjustable dampers associated with suspension of respective ones of a plurality of wheels of the vehicle, a controller operably coupled to the adjustable dampers to selectively adjust a damping force of one or more of the adjustable dampers responsive to an activation signal, and a driver interface disposed at a steering wheel assembly of the vehicle. The driver interface may be actuated by a driver of the vehicle to apply the activation signal while the driver interface is actuated.

OPERATING COMMERCIAL VEHICLES USING WEIGHT ESTIMATES

Described herein are methods and systems for the weight estimation of commercial vehicles and using these estimates to control different vehicle systems such as powertrain, brakes, and suspension. A vehicle comprises a weight estimator, which receives input from different vehicle systems and/or sensors (e.g., suspension, powertrain, speedometer, tire pressure monitoring system) and uses these inputs to determine weight values associated with the vehicle (e.g., total weight, weight distribution per axle, weight distribution per wheel, load distribution). These weight values are then used by the power train, brakes, and/or suspension as additional input for operating these systems besides drivers' input, e.g., provided as pedal positions. For example, different weight values can cause different powertrain outputs for the same accelerator pedal position, e.g., greater output for a heavier vehicle. As such, a driver experiences more uniform vehicle responses for different vehicle loads.

Situation-based vehicle configuration

Particular embodiments may enable configuring settings of a vehicle in a designated mode. A signal to place the vehicle in a designated mode may be received. A roll angle and a pitch angle of the vehicle as parked may be assessed based on data received from a position sensor built into the vehicle. Signals to adjust an electronically controlled suspension of the vehicle to reduce the roll angle or the pitch angle so that the vehicle is level as parked may be sent based on the assessed roll angle and pitch angle exceeding a threshold value. One or more settings of the vehicle to change default operating characteristics by the vehicle while in the designated mode may be modified.

Methods and apparatus for adjusting a suspension of a vehicle are described herein. An example apparatus includes a memory storing a plurality of suspension profiles. Each of the suspension profiles includes a stored performance parameter of a vehicle and a suspension setting. The apparatus includes a sensor to detect a driver performance parameter of a driver driving the vehicle. The driver performance parameter represents a behaviour of the driver of the vehicle. The apparatus further includes a processor to compare the driver performance parameter to at least one of the plurality of suspension profiles stored in the memory, and a controller to adjust a suspension of the vehicle according to a first suspension setting of a first suspension profile of the plurality of suspension profiles if the driver performance parameter corresponds to a first stored performance parameter of the first suspension profile.
