Autonomous vehicle operation feature monitoring and evaluation of effectiveness

Methods and systems for monitoring use and determining risks associated with operation of a vehicle having one or more autonomous operation features are provided. According to certain aspects, operating data may be recorded during operation of the vehicle. This may include information regarding the vehicle, the vehicle environment, use of the autonomous operation features, and/or control decisions made by the features. The control decisions may include actions the feature would have taken to control the vehicle, but which were not taken because a vehicle operator was controlling the relevant aspect of vehicle operation at the time. The operating data may be recorded in a log, which may then be used to determine risk levels associated with vehicle operation based upon risk levels associated with the autonomous operation features. The risk levels may further be used to adjust an insurance policy associated with the vehicle.

Autonomous vehicle park-and-go scenario design

In one embodiment, when an autonomous driving vehicle (ADV) is parked, the ADV can determine, based on criteria, whether to operate in an open-space mode or an on-lane mode. The criteria can include whether the ADV is within a threshold distance and threshold heading relative to a vehicle lane. If the criteria are not satisfied, then the ADV can enter the open-space mode. While in the open-space mode, the ADV can maneuver it is within the threshold distance and the threshold heading relative to the vehicle lane. In response to the criteria being satisfied, the ADV can enter and operate in the on-lane mode for the ADV to resume along the vehicle lane.

A method for driving a vehicle on an opposite lane in a controlled manner includes detecting, with a surroundings sensor system, surroundings of the vehicle and receiving, with a control device, measurement data of the surroundings sensor system. The method includes identifying at least one course of a road, and at least one course of at least one road user in the surroundings based on the received measurement data and planning a trajectory of the vehicle within the at least one course of a road. The method further includes identifying a section of the road wherein when driving on the section of road the opposite lane is cut across by the vehicle, and determining a first stop position for the vehicle prior to entering the identified section of road. The method then checks whether the opposite lane can be driven on in the identified section.

High efficiency, high output transmission having an aluminum housing

A transmission includes an input shaft coupled to a prime mover, a countershaft, main shaft, and an output shaft, with gears between the countershaft and the main shaft. A shift actuator selectively couples the input shaft to the main shaft by rotatably coupling gears between the countershaft and the main shaft. The shift actuator is mounted on an exterior wall of a housing including the countershaft and the main shaft. An integrated actuator housing includes a single external power access for the shift actuator. A controller interprets a shaft displacement angle, determines if the transmission is in an imminent zero or zero torque region, and performs a transmission operation in response to the transmission in the imminent zero or zero torque region.

Vehicle assist feature control

Upon determining a vehicle is in an off-road area based on sensor data, an off-road operation mode is enabled to an enabled state. Then, upon receiving a first user input selecting the off-road operation mode, one or more assist features are represented on a display in the vehicle. Then at least one of the assist features is selected based on a second user input. Then, after a key cycle initiated by a user that engages the vehicle from an off state to an on state, the selected assist feature is deactivated to a deactivated state.

Control method of reducing a steering load of an in-wheel motor vehicle

A control method of an in-wheel motor vehicle includes: determining, by a controller, a state of a steering load that is a load of a steering system; maintaining, by the controller, a front wheel brake in a released state, when the state of the steering load is in a high load state of a predetermined level or more; determining, by the controller, a tire angle of a front wheel according to a driver steering input based on driver steering input information in the released state of the front wheel brake; determining, by the controller, a required tire rotational angle of the front wheel by using the determined tire angle of the front wheel; and reducing, by the controller, the steering load by driving an in-wheel motor of the front wheel for a compensation by the determined required tire rotational angle of the front wheel.

The present disclosure relates to a vehicle and control method thereof, to a vehicle having a driver assistance system for assisting a driver. When a lane change is requested even though it does not meet the predetermined lane change condition, present disclosure provides a vehicle driver assistance system (ADAS) that can actively indicate a lane change intention to an adjacent vehicle through ‘deflected driving in a lane’ and perform lane change safely after confirming the yield/overtake intention of the adjacent vehicle. It is an aspect of the present disclosure to provide a control method of a vehicle, including: confirming whether the surrounding situation of the vehicle satisfies a lane change condition when a lane change command occurs while the vehicle is driving autonomously; performing deflected driving in the lane of the vehicle to indicate a lane change intention when the surrounding situation of the vehicle does not satisfy the lane change condition; and performing a lane change corresponding to the lane change command when the yield intention for the lane change intention is confirmed from another vehicle around the traveling lane after indicating the lane change intention through the deflected driving.

Moving body control apparatus, moving body, and moving body control method

A moving body control apparatus includes a travel control section that controls travel of a moving body based on vicinity information, and a lane change control section that performs a lane change of the moving body from a first lane to a second lane, if the lane change of the moving body from the first lane to the second lane is approved. The travel control section performs first acceleration/deceleration control to accelerate or decelerate the moving body according to a velocity of another moving body travelling in the second lane, if the lane change of the moving body from the first lane to the second lane is denied.

Vehicle control device

A vehicle control device includes a controller configured to control operation of a braking device and operation of a driving motor. The controller can switch between a normal mode of controlling acceleration/deceleration in accordance with a driver's acceleration/deceleration operation, and a cruise control mode of maintaining the vehicle speed at a target speed without being dependent on the acceleration/deceleration operation. The controller is configured to execute braking control, including braking by the braking device and regenerative braking by the driving motor, during the cruise control mode in accordance with a change in a vehicle traveling condition. The braking control includes causing the braking device to generate a braking force without using the regenerative braking and subsequently executing a braking-force switching process including increasing a braking force by the regenerative braking while reducing the braking force from the braking device, if a determination result indicates that the vehicle speed is stable.
