DETECTION OF ACTIVE EMERGENCY VEHICLES SHARED WITHIN AN AUTONOMOUS VEHICLE FLEET
20200272150 · 2020-08-27 ·

Various technologies described herein pertain to sharing of detection of active emergency vehicles within an autonomous vehicle fleet. Information specifying detection of an active emergency vehicle at a first location in an environment is received. The active emergency vehicle is detected based upon sensor inputs of a first autonomous vehicle in an autonomous vehicle fleet. A second autonomous vehicle, at a second location, in the autonomous vehicle fleet is identified as being approached by the active emergency vehicle based on the information specifying the detection of the active emergency vehicle at the first location and the second location of the second autonomous vehicle. A remote assistance session for the second autonomous vehicle is caused to be initiated based on the second autonomous vehicle being identified as being approached by the active emergency vehicle. The second autonomous vehicle is controllable by a remote operator during the remote assistance session.

An autonomous vehicle includes a detection system for identifying the presence of authorities or emergency vehicles on a road, such as law enforcement vehicles, fire engines, fire trucks, police officers, first responders, traffic cones, flares, etc. The detection system may include audio and visual detection system dedicated to the detection of authorities. Additionally, systems that correlate the detected authorities and/or any audible or visual instructions given by the authorities to changes in the behavior of the autonomous vehicle. The autonomous vehicle may react to the detected authorities or emergency vehicles by determining a driving related operation to safely operate around the detected authorities or emergency vehicles.

INTEGRATED LIGHT BAR AND MESSAGE DISPLAY VEHICLE WARNING SYSTEM FOR ALERTING RESPONDERS TO ONCOMING MOTOR VEHICLES

An integrated light bar for emergency vehicles and having a vehicle detection and warning sensor intermediate, preferably medial, opposing ends of the light bar, for alerting a responder at a crash site to take evasive action to a detected on-coming motor vehicle move-over failure, which light bar configured with supports for mounting to the emergency vehicle and having a processor that couples to the sensor, and an alerting device that couples to the processor. The sensor may be an imaging device, radar unit, or similar. The alerting device includes warning lights, a tactile device, and an audio unit for warning signals. The system detects an approaching vehicle, and with a longitudinal axis of a rescue vehicle determines a position angle line and spacing between the system and the approaching vehicle. Through a sequence of positions of the approaching vehicle, the processor determines the possibility of a collision based upon the change in the angle between the longitudinal axis and the position angle line and the approaching vehicle. A message device presents an instructional imperative for an averting movement of the approaching vehicle. A method of alerting a responder to a failure of an on-coming vehicle to move over and for instruction averting movement of the approaching vehicle is disclosed.

EMERGENCY LANE CHANGE ASSISTANCE SYSTEM

A method of autonomously assisting the operation of a host vehicle traveling on a first lane of a roadway includes detecting the presence of an emergency vehicle along the roadway. The distance between the host vehicle and one of the emergency vehicle and an associated stationary vehicle is monitored. A steering gear is actuated to laterally move the host vehicle out of the first lane when the distance between the host vehicle and one of the emergency vehicle and the stationary vehicle reaches a predetermined value.
