A flap control device spring driven toward open position upon actuator failure.

Mitigation for driving through high water

Methods and systems are provided for estimating a level of water in real time for a vehicle and using the said estimation to perform one or more vehicle control strategies. In one example, a method may include adjusting a valve in a fuel system of the vehicle responsive to a level of water through which the vehicle is passing. In this way, water inhalation into the vehicle fuel system may be avoided.

Emergency steering system for vehicle

An emergency steering system for a vehicle, may include a planetary gear mounted in an inlet space of a gear box for a steering apparatus so that the planetary gear is ordinarily operated at a gear ratio of 1:1 and has an increased gear ratio in the event of failure of a main steering device; and a gear ratio increasing device mounted to an upper plate portion of the gear box to increase the gear ratio of the planetary gear.

Self-destruct zone and autonomous vehicle navigation

Methods and systems of an electrical vehicle are provided that recognize a power system fault with the vehicle and in response autonomously drive the vehicle to an identified safe location to self-destruct. Upon reaching the location, the vehicle can evaluate the location using imaging sensors to determine whether the location is free of objects, animals, or people. If not, the vehicle may autonomously drive to another safe location. Prior to destruction, the vehicle sends messages, including information about the power system fault, to at least one device or third party. The messages include location information for the vehicle or information about the power system fault.

Limp-home control method and system for hybrid vehicle

A limp-home control method and a system for hybrid vehicles which can minimize vehicle vibration (jerk) and improve operability by driving an engine with counter electromotive force and locking up an engine clutch with a difference between an engine speed and a motor speed minimized when a high voltage to an inverter is interrupted due to a failure of a high voltage system of the hybrid vehicle.

APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING A TEMPERATURE OF A VEHICLE COMPONENT BY MEANS OF AIR GUIDE MEANS

An apparatus, for controlling a temperature of a vehicle component, such as of an internal combustion engine, by way of a cooling apparatus of the vehicle, includes a displaceable air guide, an actuator, a temperature sensor and a control unit. The control device is adapted so that a partially open air guide protection position is set at least temporarily below an external temperature threshold value for providing a frost warning. A related method is also disclosed.

Engine room temperature rise restricting apparatus

An engine room temperature rise restricting apparatus including an open and close detector of the grille shutter, and a controller including a CPU and a memory coupled to the CPU, wherein the CPU and the memory are configured to perform: detecting a stuck-closed failure of a grille shutter of a condition that the grille shutter remains closed regardless of an open instruction for the grille shutter, based on signal from the open and close detector; and controlling a speed ratio of a continuously variable transmission so that an upper limit of an engine rotational speed or an engine driving force when the stuck-closed failure is detected is smaller than an upper limit of the engine rotational speed or the engine driving force when the stuck-closed failure is not detected.

The invention relates to a flap control device for a motor vehicle comprising at least one flap and an actuator moving said at least one flap between a closed and open position.

Operation of power electronics during battery communication loss

A vehicle includes a battery control module and a controller. The battery control module is configured to issue at regular intervals a message indicative of a state of charge (SOC) of a battery. The controller is configured to, in an absence of receiving the messages at the regular intervals while in a key-on state and a torque demand is present, restrict power flow between the battery and an electric powertrain to a limit that is based on a predicted SOC to provide limited propulsive force.

Hybrid vehicle

Using an estimated electric angle calculated by an electric angle estimation unit, a PWM control unit controls an output of a motor generator (MG2) having an abnormality of a resolver. The electric angle estimation unit converts, into an estimated rotation angle speed, a rotation speed of MG2 estimated from rotation speeds of an engine and a normal motor generator mechanically coupled to MG2. The estimated electric angle is calculated by correcting a sum of the estimated electric angle in a previous control period and an estimated electric angle change amount between the previous control period and a present control period obtained from the estimated rotation angle speed, with a calculated and estimated electric angle error. The electric angle error is estimated from a control command for an inverter and an actual current value detected by a current sensor.
