Distributing items using multimodal delivery systems

Intermodal vehicles may be loaded with items and an aerial vehicle, and directed to travel to areas where demand for the items is known or anticipated. The intermodal vehicles may be coupled to locomotives, container ships, road tractors or other vehicles, and equipped with systems for loading one or more items onto the aerial vehicle, and for launching or retrieving the aerial vehicle while the intermodal vehicles are in motion. The areas where the demand is known or anticipated may be identified on any basis, including but not limited to past histories of purchases or deliveries to such areas, or events that are scheduled to occur in such areas. Additionally, intermodal vehicles may be loaded with replacement parts and/or inspection equipment, and configured to conduct repairs, servicing operations or inspections on aerial vehicles within the intermodal vehicles, while the intermodal vehicles are in motion.

Bridge crane apparatus for opening and closing railcar lids

A bridge-supported tool for opening and closing lids located on top of railcars. The bridge has two sides and a cross member between the sides that moves along the sides, the cross member supports a tool carriage that moves along the cross member, the tool carriage has a tool engagement interface for retaining a selected tool and the interface is vertically moveable, such that the tool is moveable to any selected location in the space defined by the bridge. A controller can be used to direct the positioning of the tool by controlling the movements of the cross member, tool carriage and tool engagement interface.

Cover assemblies for railroad cars
12202529 · 2025-01-21 · ·

Cover assemblies for railroad cars are disclosed. In some embodiments, the cover assemblies include a cover pivotably movable between closed and open positions. The cover assemblies additionally include a lid stop assembly including a release handle positioned adjacent to a cover handle and a first locking element operatively connected to the release handle. The lid stop assembly additionally includes a second locking element attached to, or formed with, the housing. The first locking element moves between a locking position in which the first locking element engages the second locking element to secure the cover in the open position, and a releasing position in which the first locking element is spaced from the second locking element allowing the cover to be moved from the open position toward the closed position. The release handle allowing the user to move the first locking element between the locking and releasing positions.

System and method for powered railcar doors

In one embodiment, a system includes a first door assembly operable to at least partially cover an opening of a rail car. The system also includes an actuator. A first common linkage is coupled to the actuator and is operable to reciprocally move in a longitudinal direction relative to the actuator. In particular embodiments, a first secondary linkage is coupled to the first common linkage and is coupled to an exterior surface of the first door assembly, wherein the first secondary linkage cooperates with the first common linkage to move the first door assembly between an open position and a closed position over the top hatch of the rail car.

STRUCTURE FOR A SUBSTRUCTURE
20250162490 · 2025-05-22 ·

A structure for a substructure includes a body, and an openable roof. The roof is displaceable at its edges along two longitudinal beams of the body. In a closed state, the roof closes a roof opening between the two longitudinal beams. In an opened state, the roof predominantly exposes the roof opening between the two longitudinal beams. Each longitudinal beam is supported in a height-adjustable manner relative to the substructure via at least one lifting assembly. The body is adjustable at least in height relative to the substructure depending on a height adjustment of the lifting assembly. At least one lifting drive is provided which displaces the body together with the roof in height relative to the substructure. The lifting drive applies a force in the substructure for compressing a load protruding beyond the substructure by lowering the body with the closed roof onto the substructure against the protruding load.
