Method and systems for an automated railyard

Various methods and systems are provided for a railyard system. In one example, a method for managing a railyard comprises, within the railyard, positioning a cargo unit on a multi-directional pad and moving the pad multi-directionally based on a requested order for the cargo unit relative to other cargo units, where the requested order corresponds to an order of cargo units on railcars of an outbound train. The multi-directional pad may operate within an arena, where the arena includes a concrete surface depressed into the ground such that a surface of the pad is level with a surface of the ground surrounding the arena, thereby allowing railcars to be pushed onto the pad by a locomotive of a train.

PIPE-BASED DELIVERY NETWORK USING SELF-DIRECTED PODS

A system and method for transit of delivery pods across a pipe network, including: a commodity-based passive pipe segment including a guide rail extending through a hollow interior of the pipe segment, the pipe segment configured to facilitate a transit for pods to travel along the guide rail; a portal configured to enable insertion and removal of removable totes from pods; a pod configured to travel through the hollow interior of the pipe segment and including (i) a cargo module carrying a removable tote, (ii) a drive module including an electric motor operatively connected to an active wheel assembly positioned to enable a first wheel to actively engage with the guide rail, and (iii) a passive wheel assembly positioned to enable a second wheel to passively engage with the guide rail.

Methods and systems for delivering or accepting a parcel at a rooftop via an aerial vehicle

The technology disclosed herein relates to a rooftop platform to facilitate a delivery of a parcel by an aerial vehicle. The rooftop platform may comprise an elevator apparatus at least partially accessible via the rooftop platform. The rooftop platform may also comprise a rotatable turntable mounted to the rooftop platform. The rotatable turntable can be rotated to position the parcel on the elevator apparatus. The rotatable turntable may have tracks for receiving track wheels of a parcel containment unit. In some embodiments, the parcel may be positioned on the elevator apparatus at a top surface of a lift cabin of the elevator apparatus. The rooftop platform may also comprise a landing area for the aerial vehicle to deliver or receive the parcel containment unit via the rotatable turntable.
