System and method for monitoring dietary activity
A system for monitoring dietary activity of a user includes a wearable device having at least one audio input unit configured to record an audio sample corresponding to audio from a user's neck. The system further includes a processor configured to execute programmed instructions stored in a memory to obtain an audio sample from the audio input unit of a wearable device, determine segmental feature values of a set of selected features from the audio sample by extracting short-term features in the set of selected features from the audio sample and determining the segmental feature values of the set of selected features from the extracted short-term features. The processor is further configured to, using a classifier, classify a dietary activity based on the determined segmental feature values of the audio sample and generate an output corresponding to the classified dietary activity.
PHYSIOLOGICAL ACOUSTIC MONITORING SYSTEM
An acoustic monitoring system has an acoustic front-end, a first signal path from the acoustic front-end directly to an audio transducer and a second signal path from the acoustic front-end to an acoustic data processor via an analog-to-digital converter. The acoustic front-end receives an acoustic sensor signal responsive to body sounds in a person. The audio transducer provides continuous audio of the body sounds. The acoustic data processor provides audio of the body sounds upon user demand.
APPARATUSES FOR DETECTING AND/OR DIAGNOSING SWALLOWING DISORDERS
Apparatuses for detecting swallowing disorders and methods for using same are provided. In a general embodiment, the apparatuses include a disposable sensor base and a sensor that is received by the disposable sensor base. The sensor base includes a sensor interface having a predetermined cut-away shape and a directionally-keyed mating surface. The sensor includes a handle portion having a shape that corresponds to the predetermined shape of the sensor interface, a support portion configured to be received by the directionally-keyed mating surface when the sensor is inserted into the sensor interface, and electronics configured to collect data sensed by the sensor. The apparatuses of the present disclosure can be attached to a patient's neck to detect and/or diagnose swallowing disorders during a swallowing test.
Systems and methods for predicting gastrointestinal impairment
Predicting gastrointestinal impairment may involve obtaining intestinal sounds of a patient to generate audio data, identifying predefined spectral events in the audio data that are predictive of subsequent gastrointestinal impairment, the spectral events being defined by predefined parameters, and predicting the likelihood of subsequent gastrointestinal impairment relative to the identified spectral events.

A method to measure sound-producing behaviors of a subject with a power- and bandwidth-limited electronic device that includes a processor includes measuring, by a microphone communicatively coupled to the processor, sound in a vicinity of the subject to generate an audio data signal that represents the sound. The method also includes measuring, by at least one second sensor communicatively coupled to the processor, at least one parameter other than sound to generate at least a second data signal that represents the at least one parameter other than sound. The method also includes detecting one or more sound-producing behaviors of the subject based on: both the audio data signal and the second data signal; or information derived from both the audio data signal and the second data signal.
