Railroad switch circuit controller assembly

A railroad switch circuit controller assembly includes a switch frame configured to be mounted to a stock rail, and a switch controller held by the switch frame. The switch controller includes at least one switching mechanism. The switch controller includes a point detection rod operatively connected to the at least one switching mechanism. The point detection rod extends a length from a proximate end portion to a distal end portion. The proximate end portion of the point detection rod is located closer to the stock rail as compared to the distal end portion when the switch frame is mounted to the stock rail. The railroad switch circuit controller assembly also includes a switch foot configured to be mounted to a switch rail, and an external rod operatively connected between the switch foot and the point detection rod of the switch controller such that the external rod is configured to translate linear movement of the switch foot toward and away from the stock rail to the point detection rod. The external rod is connected to the proximate end portion of the point detection rod.

Measuring assembly, detection device and method of using same

The present invention provides a measuring assembly (11) for measuring a characteristic of the movement of a first rail relative to a second rail. The measuring assembly comprises a measuring gauge (15) for measuring the characteristic and a rail movement detection device (13) to which the measuring gauge is removably secured. The detection device comprises a first subassembly (19) and a second subassembly (39) wherein the first subassembly and second subassembly are slidably interconnected. The first subassembly comprises a first rail engagement portion spaced from a first end (23) of the first subassembly. The second subassembly comprises a second rail engagement portion spaced from a first end (43) of the second subassembly. The measuring gauge is secured between the first end of the first subassembly and the first end of the second subassembly. Movement of the first rail engagement portion relative to the second rail engagement portion causes the first end of the first subassembly to move away from the first end of the second subassembly, the characteristic of the movement being measured by the measuring gauge.

The switch machine disclosed uses electro-hydraulic power to move the throw rod against the resistance of redundant mechanical springs and the switch point, for half of its stroke. Once the switch points have moved past mid-stroke the spring force in the machine is released and assists in the closure of the switch points against the stock rail. All hydraulic force is removed when the power unit is turned off. The redundant spring assembly holds the switch points firmly against the stock rail with 2000 lbs of holding force. This machine can be described as a power operated spring switch.

A monorail switch for a monorail guideway comprises a moveable guide beam having lateral running surfaces and an actuating mechanism. The actuating mechanism, equipped with a counterweight, is operative to move the moveable guide beam from a tangent position, where the moveable guide beam is aligned with a tangent travelling direction, to a turnout position, where the moveable guide beam is aligned with a diverting direction. Potential energy stored in the counterweight is released and at least partially stored in the form of elastic potential energy in the lateral running surfaces when the moveable guide beam is moved from the tangent position to the turnout position. Similarly, the elastic potential energy stored in the lateral running surfaces is released and at least partially stored in the form of potential energy by the counterweight when the moveable guide beam is moved from the turnout position to the tangent position.
