Comminution of feces and preparation for analysis
An analytical toilet comprising: a bowl for collecting feces from a user; a comminutor that comminutes at least a portion of the feces; a processing fluid driver that causes a processing fluid to mix with and transport at least a portion of the comminuted feces to an analytical station in the toilet; a separator that separates a sample of the at least a portion of the comminuted feces to be analyzed; and a wash fluid driver that causes a wash fluid to wash the feces out of the bowl.
HYDROGEL PRODUCING DEVICE FOR SAMPLING OF THE INTESTINAL LUMEN
The present disclosure relates to an ingestible device for sampling of the gastrointestinal tract. In particular, the device comprises an oral delivery capsule comprising a container having on the inside a hydrogel pre-polymer. The hydrogel prepolymer is capable of polymerising in situ, such as within the gastrointestinal tract, thereby collecting a sample of the gastrointestinal lumen by absorbing the lumen and its contents into the formed hydrogel.
ANALYSIS OF BODILY EMISSONS
Apparatus and methods are described for use with urine and feces of a subject that are emitted into a toilet bowl. One or more sensors are coupled to the toilet bowl and are configured to detect one or more urine-related parameters relating to the subject's urine and one or more feces-related parameters relating to the subject's feces, without requiring any action to be performed by any person subsequent to emission of the urine or feces into the toilet bowl. A computer processor determines that the subject is suffering from dehydration, at least partially based upon the one or more urine-related parameters, and classifies the dehydration as being a given type of dehydration, at least partially based upon the one or more feces-related parameters. Other applications are also described.
AUTOMATIC EXCRETION-PROCESSING DEVICE, MANAGEMENT SYSTEM, DETERMINATION METHOD, AND PROGRAM
An automatic excretion-processing device (1) includes a cup (2) attached to a human body and configured to receive an object which is excreted from the human body, a processing unit (3) configured to transfer the object in the cup outside of the cup, an acquisition unit (4) configured to image the inside of the cup and to acquire a captured image of the object, and a determination unit (5) configured to extract a feature of the object with reference to a result of iterative learning using the captured images of the object in different states on the basis of the captured images acquired by the acquisition unit and to classify the state of the object.
METHOD OF FECAL SAMPLE PREPARATION FOR AUTOMATED IMAGE ANALYSIS
A method of analyzing a fecal sample containing parasitic material and non-parasitic material. The fecal sample is first deposited into a carrier containing a flotation medium. The carrier is then shaken to disperse the fecal sample in the flotation medium. The fecal sample is then allowed to settle under gravity or by centrifugation. A filter device is then inserted into the carrier to separate the parasitic material from the non-parasitic material and to collect the parasitic material. The collected parasitic material is then poured into a capture filter for analysis.
Compositions for fecal floral transplantation and methods for making and using them and devices for delivering them
In alternative embodiments, the invention provides compositions, e.g., formulations, used for gastric, gastrointestinal and/or colonic treatments or lavage, for inducing the purgation of a gastrointestinal (GI) tract, including a colon; and methods for making and using them. In alternative embodiments, compositions and methods of the invention are used for the stabilization, amelioration, treatment and/or prevention of constipation, for the treatment of abdominal pain, particularly non-specific abdominal pain, and diarrhea, including diarrhea caused by a drug side effect, a psychological condition, a disease or a condition such as Crohn's Disease, a poison, a toxin or an infection, e.g., a toxin-mediated traveler's diarrhea, or C. difficile or the pseudo-membranous colitis associated with this infection. In alternative embodiments, the invention provides pharmaceuticals and products (articles) of manufacture for delivering these compositions and formulations to an individual. The invention also provides devices for delivering a fecal material to a patient.
DRAINAGE BAG SYSTEMS AND METHODS OF USING THE SAME
Embodiments disclosed herein are directed to drainage bag systems configured to facilitate disposal of a fluid therein and methods of using the drainage bag systems. For example, the drainage bag systems may include a drainage container configured to receive and hold a fluid from a patient. The drainage container may be fluidly coupled and reversibly attached to a bag. The bag may be configured to selectively receive at least some of fluid held by the drainage container. The bag may be detached from the drainage container and disposed of in a substantially fluid tight manner without disrupting operation of the drainage container (e.g., receiving and holding a fluid).
ON-SITE DETECTION OF PARASITIC INFECTION OF MAMMALS
A portable kit for generating a digital image of a faecal sample suitable for microscopic analysis, comprises a faecal sample preparation device configured to receive a faecal sample and a faecal flotation fluid, filter a suspension comprising the faecal sample and the faecal flotation fluid to provide a filtrate, a translucent faecal sample support, and a portable digital imaging module. The portable digital imaging module comprises a housing, a camera/microscopic lens assembly configured to generate a digital image of the faecal sample on the sample support, an illumination system, a seat for receiving the faecal sample support disposed between the camera/microscopic lens assembly and illumination system, a memory for storing the digital image, a communication system for communicating the digital image to an off-site image processing module via a communications network, and a battery operatively connected to the camera and microscopic lens assembly, memory and communication system.
FECES COLOR DETECTION DEVICE
A plurality of color sensing sections are attached to a toilet seat so as to test a health state or a fecal occult blood portion every time by capturing the feces surface color during defecation. Before feces which have been excreted from a body sink into a water-seal portion, the circumference of the feces is optically captured to detect the color of the surface of the feces. By monitoring changes in color, the health state of the defecator is monitored. In particular, by checking the presence/absence of an occult blood portion, the present invention assists in early detection of colorectal cancer and allows a fecal occult blood test to be performed in a hygienic manner without burdening the user.
EXCREMENT ANALYSIS DEVICE, TOILET PROVIDED WITH SAID ANALYSIS DEVICE, AND METHOD FOR ANALYZING EXCREMENT
Provided is an excrement analysis device capable of analyzing urine and feces simultaneously without increasing a burden of maintenance.
The excrement analysis device 10 of the present invention includes: a light source 20 that emits an inspection light toward an inspection area in a toilet bowl; spectroscopic information acquisition means 30 that receives an inspection light emitted toward the inspection area and acquires spectroscopic information from the received inspection light; and analysis means 40 that extracts a first space containing the largest amount of urine components and a second space containing the largest amount of fecal components from the acquired spectroscopic information, and outputs a result of analysis of urine and feces on the basis of spectroscopic information regarding the first space and the second space.
