Breakaway Automotive Steering Tie Rod for Controlled Wheel Motion During Crash

Disclosed is a vehicle having a breakaway tie rod. The tie rod has a longitudinal axis oriented substantially orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle, and includes a rod portion and a receiver portion. The rod portion includes a proximal ball joint disposed at the proximal end and a male coupling section disposed at the distal end. The receiver portion includes a female coupling section disposed at the proximal end, a distal ball joint disposed at the distal end, and a narrowing feature disposed between the proximal end and distal end. The male coupling section of the rod portion is received into the female coupling section of the receiver portion, forming a connection, and the distal end of the rod portion is disposed proximate to the narrowing feature. The narrowing feature is configured to fracture when subjected to a threshold force substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle.

SWIVEL BEARING FOR THE INDEPENDENT WHEEL SUSPENSION OF A FRONT WHEEL
20170297397 · 2017-10-19 ·

A pivot bearing for independent wheel suspension of a steerable front wheel of a vehicle having at least one upper bearing with a connection to a spring strut for attachment to the body. To improve the safety of the passenger cell in the event of a frontal collision, the connection has a separating device that brings about separation of the attachment of the pivot bearing to the spring strut and to the body of the vehicle at the upper bearing in the event of a frontal impact.

Steering knuckle

A steering knuckle, including a rod part, a disc part, an ear part including a first ear and a second ear. The rod part and the ear part are disposed on two sides of the disc part, respectively. The first ear is longer than the second ear. The first ear and the second ear each include a pin hole; the connection line of two pin holes of the first ear and the second ear is perpendicular to the axis of the rod part. The first ear extends parallel to the axis of the rod part in the direction away from the disc part to form a pulling arm configured to connect to a steering drag link. The second ear extends perpendicularly to the axis of the rod part and perpendicularly to the connection line of the two pin holes to form a steering arm configured to connect to a steering tie rod.
