20240051570 · 2024-02-15 ·

Systems and techniques are provided for simulating movement of an articulated vehicle. An example method can include generating a simulation environment for an autonomous vehicle, wherein the simulation environment includes at least one articulated vehicle that includes a tractor coupled to a first trailer using a first pivot joint; determining a first velocity of the first pivot joint based on a first simulated movement associated with the tractor; and determining a second simulated movement associated with the first trailer based on the first velocity of the first pivot joint and a first distance between the first pivot joint and a first point on the first trailer.

LANE ASSISTANCE FOR VEHICLES WITH TRAILERS

Orientations of a vehicle with an attached trailer can be specified for obtaining respective images of the trailer. Respective images of the trailer captured by a vehicle camera at the specified orientations can then be received. The images can be input to a machine learning program trained to output trailer size metrics. The vehicle can then be controlled according to the trailer size metrics output from the machine learning program.

A steering control unit and to a method of controlling the steering of a multi-unit vehicle is provided, the vehicle having a plurality of vehicle parts movably connected to one another and a plurality of steerable axle units. A first axle control unit is in conjunction with a first steerable axle unit and at least one second axle control unit is in conjunction with at least one second steerable axle unit. The steering control system has a central control module that is connected to the axle control units via a common data line for exchange of steering angle data. The axle control units have data interfaces for communication via the data line. The data interfaces transfer mutually identical data formats, whereby the steering control system is set up in a modular manner with a variable number of axle control units that can be integrated.

CONTROLLING A VEHICLE BASED ON TRAILER SWAY

Examples of techniques for controlling a vehicle based on trailer sway are disclosed. In one example implementation according to aspects of the present disclosure, a computer-implemented method includes estimating, by a processing device, an estimated articulation angle between a vehicle and a trailer coupled to the vehicle. The method further includes calculating, by the processing device, an expected articulation angle between the vehicle and the trailer. The method further includes comparing, by the processing device, the estimated articulation angle and the expected articulation angle to determine whether the trailer is experiencing trailer sway. The method further includes, responsive to determining that the trailer is experiencing sway, controlling, by the processing device, the vehicle to reduce the trailer sway.

Steering dolly

A steering system for steering a heavy haul trailer dolly comprising a turntable mounted on the dolly for connecting to another trailer unit. The dolly comprising a main frame, a wheel group mounted to the main frame, and a pivot frame mounted to the main frame between the turntable and the wheel group. A counter-steering linkage connects the pivot frame and the turntable. Hydraulic cylinders connect the pivot frame and the wheel group. To automatically steer the dolly, the hydraulic cylinders are locked in length. Rotation of the turntable in one direction causes the pivot frame and the wheel group to rotate in the opposite direction. To steer the dolly directly, the hydraulic cylinders are operated to extend and retract, pushing and pulling against the pivot frame and turntable to rotate the wheel group.

TRAILER REVERSE GUIDANCE GRAPHICS

A vehicle, system and method for steering a trailer attached to a vehicle via a hitch along a selected path. A display of the vehicle shows a view behind the trailer. A processor projects a predicted path of the trailer and an instantaneous path of the trailer onto the display. The predicted path is affected by a steering angle at the vehicle and a hitch angle and the instantaneous path is affected by the hitch angle. A steering system is used to change the steering angle at the vehicle to adjust the predicted path, wherein an effect of the predicted path on the instantaneous path brings the instantaneous path of the trailer into alignment with the selected path.

Visual tracking of target features

A vehicle driver assist system provides for the location of a target feature in an initial image and updates the location of that target feature based on information indicative of vehicle dynamic operation. The system predicts a relative position of the target feature within subsequent images such that only a portion of subsequent images need by analyzed and searched.

A control device and method for controlling a tag axle steering system, configured to steer tag axle wheels of a tag axle, are provided. The method comprises, when the steering angle of the tag axle wheels is offset from a steering angle of a neutral position of the tag axle wheels and in response to a fault signal indicating malfunction of the tag axle steering system, locking the position of the tag axle wheels at a current steering angle of the tag axle wheels. A computer program and a computer-readable medium, as well as a vehicle, are also disclosed.
