An intrasaccular flow diverter includes a wire structure (e.g., a braided wire or a laser-cut hypotube), a thin-film mesh placed over the wire structure, and crimps fixing the thin-film mesh to the wire structure at each crimp. The wire structure and the thin-film mesh between adjacent crimps are expanded radially to form thin-film covered spheroid structures. When deployed in an aneurysm, the spheroid structures may volumetrically fill the aneurysm sac. An intrasaccular flow diverter with an umbrella structure includes a wire structure with a plurality of crimps along the wire structure, and a thin-film covered umbrella structure at one end of the wire structure. The wire structure between adjacent crimps is expanded radially to form a spheroid structure. When deployed in an aneurysm, the thin-film covered umbrella structure may cover the aneurysm neck.

A non-occlusive device is provided that includes a coilable section and a docking section. When deployed from a microcatheter within a wide-neck vascular aneurysm, the coilable section is configured to become coiled into a coil defining a sequence of concentric loops, and to bridge a neck of the aneurysm so as to at least partially cover an orifice of the aneurysm, when in use. The docking section is configured to be deployed from the microcatheter within the aneurysm. The docking section extends distally from an outermost one of the concentric loops of the coil, and is shaped so as to define one or more concentric loops having an outer diameter less than an outer diameter of the concentric loops of the coil. The docking section is configured to anchor, stabilize, and/or assist with positioning of the device within the aneurysm. Other embodiments are also described.

A novel method of blackening surgical needles is disclosed. Surgical needles having outer surfaces are first placed into a first pretreatment bath having a novel composition. The needles are then placed into a second blackening bath having a novel composition for a sufficient period of time to effectively blacken the surfaces of the needles. The novel methods for blackening the surfaces of a stainless steel alloy surgical needle provide a chromium (VI)-free alternative to current needle manufacturing processes. Another unique feature of this novel method is its short processing time. The blackening processes of the present invention can be utilized for in-line treatment processes which can be easily incorporated into high speed needle manufacturing processes, such as strip mounted processes. In addition, the processes of the present invention are readily adaptable to batch processes. Also disclosed are novel systems for blackening surgical needles and novel blackening baths for surgical needles.
