Methods, systems and apparatuses including apparatuses that can be used in knee replacement procedures are disclosed. According to one example, a method is disclosed that can include determining a desired flexion space between a tibia and a femur with the patient's knee joint oriented in flexion, referencing a tibia resection guide along the tibia a distance from the desired flexion space, resecting a proximal end portion of the tibia with the tibia resection guide, inserting an intramedullary rod into the femur with the patient's knee joint in flexion, tensioning the patient's knee joint to create a flexion gap by separating the tibia and the femur, sequent to tensioning the patient's knee joint, reorienting the femur into extension relative to the tibia and re-tensioning the patient's knee joint to create an extension gap that substantially matches the flexion gap.

BASE STATION, CHARGING STATION, AND/OR SERVER FOR ROBOTIC CATHETER SYSTEMS AND OTHER USES, AND IMPROVED ARTICULATED DEVICES AND SYSTEMS

Articulation devices, systems, methods for articulation, and methods for fabricating articulation structures will often include simple balloon arrays, with inflation of the balloons interacting with elongate skeletal support structures so as to locally alter articulation of the skeleton. The skeleton may comprise a simple helical coil or interlocking helical channels, and the array can be used to locally deflect or elongate an axis of the coil under control of a processor. Liquid inflation fluid may be directed so as to pressurize the balloons from an inflation fluid canister, and may vaporize within a plenum or the channels or balloons of the articulation system, with the inflation system preferably including valves controlled by the processor. The articulation structures can be employed in minimally invasive medical catheter systems, and also for industrial robotics, for supporting imaging systems, for entertainment and consumer products, and the like.

A surgical instrument includes a staple cartridge and a control assembly comprising a plurality of first staples and a plurality of second staples. The control assembly includes a control circuit configured to generate a drive signal and a drive unit movable in response to the drive signal to deploy the plurality of first staples and the plurality of second staples.

Motor driven surgical instrument with fluid control circuit
09883881 · 2018-02-06 · ·

A surgical system includes a surgical tool having a motor with a shaft configured to rotate, a cutting device that reciprocates in accordance with the rotation of the shaft, and a position sensor that determines a state of the motor and outputs a position signal representing the motor state. A fluid regulator provides fluid to the motor, and the motor rotates in accordance with the fluid provided. A controller generates a fluid flow command based at least in part on the position signal. The fluid regulator receives the fluid flow command and regulates fluid flow to the motor accordingly.

Automatic cuff identification system and method

A system and method for automatic determination of type of pneumatic cuff is disclosed. A system can include a pneumatic cuff with an integrated valve, and a console connectable to the pneumatic cuff. The console can be a pneumatic control system that can include a processor and memory including instructions, which when executed by the processor causes the processor to: inflate the pneumatic cuff through the integrated valve past a threshold pressure such that the integrated valve opens, receive sensor data indicative of a pressure curve during inflation of the pneumatic cuff, compare the pressure curve to stored pressure curves, determine a recommendation, based on the comparison, including information verifying the type of pneumatic cuff attached, and output the recommendation to a user.

Introducer devices and methods of use thereof

Aspects of the present disclosure are directed to a medical implant introducer (100) and methods of its use. The introducer (100) may include a handle (120), an implant-holding cavity disposed distally from the handle (120), a fluid supply conduit (122) fluidly coupled to an interior portion of the implant-holding cavity, and a distal nozzle (110) having a proximal portion, a distal portion, a middle portion in between the proximal portion and the distal portion, the middle portion having a tapered profile such that the proximal portion is larger than the distal portion, and a distal opening (112), wherein an implant in the implant-holding cavity may be expelled from the introducer (100) through the distal opening (112).

Wearable device including a sensor-actuated soft actuator and method for actuation

A multi-segment reinforced actuator includes (a) a soft actuator body that defines a chamber and (b) a plurality of distinct reinforcement structures on or in respective segments of the soft actuator body. First and second reinforcement structures are respectively configured to produce a first and second actuation motions, respectively, in first and second segments of the soft actuator body when fluid flows into or out of the chamber. The actuation motions are selected bending, extending, expansion, contraction, twisting, and combinations thereof; and the first actuation motion differs from the second actuation motion. The actuator can be used, e.g., to facilitate bending of the thumb with corresponding bending, extending, expansion, contraction, and twisting actuation motions.
