Aerodynamics of bicycle frames and associated components

The present disclosure relates to a bicycle frame and associated bicycle components, and to reducing the aerodynamic drag of these. In one aspect, there is provided an elongate structural member of a bicycle frame, the member comprising a lengthwise extending leading edge, the leading edge comprising at least a pair of forwardly extending protrusions spaced apart lengthwise therealong. In one form, the protrusions comprise tubercles, a series of which are spaced apart lengthwise along the leading edge, and which further extend to at least one side of the leading edge so as to transition into a chordwise extending rib.

The support structure for an in-vehicle component includes a first brace attached to a front portion of the vehicle body frame, and a second brace attached to a front portion of the first brace. The first brace has a frame structure that is opened toward a front side, the second brace has a box shape that is open at least on a rear surface side, and an installation space for the in-vehicle component is formed by the first brace and the second brace.

A side cowl configured to cover a vehicle side portion of a saddle-ridden vehicle is provided. The side cowl includes a convex portion elongating in an upper-lower direction and protruding outward in a vehicle width direction with respect to a cowl outer surface. The convex portion is formed on the cowl outer surface at a downstream side of traveling wind that flows on the cowl outer surface.

FRONT COWL

A front cowl for covering a vehicle front portion of a straddle-type vehicle is provided. The front cowl includes a discontinuous portion which has a non-streamlined shape with respect to a flow of traveling wind and is formed on a lower surface of the front cowl. In the front cowl, a position of a lower edge of the discontinuous portion may be lower than a position of a front fork bracket provided at a vehicle front portion of the straddle-type vehicle.

FRONT COWL

A front cowl for covering a vehicle front portion of a straddle-type vehicle is provided. The front cowl includes a discontinuous portion which has a non-streamlined shape with respect to a flow of traveling wind and is formed on a lower surface of the front cowl. In the front cowl, a position of a lower edge of the discontinuous portion may be lower than a position of a front fork bracket provided at a vehicle front portion of the straddle-type vehicle.

Straddled vehicle

A straddled vehicle includes a radiator arranged forward relative to an internal combustion engine and an ECU arranged sideward of the internal combustion engine. At least a portion of a tubular air passage through which the air for cooling the ECU passes is formed between a support cover supporting the ECU and an outer cover. A front cover, an upper cover and an under cover form a groove portion, which extends rearward from a front end portion located upward and forward relative to the radiator and is recessed inward in the vehicle width direction. An inlet opening that communicates with the air passage is formed in the groove portion.
