20230312046 · 2023-10-05 · ·

A steering system may include a seat assembly, a frame assembly and a wheel. The frame assembly may include a steering tube that is rotatably disposed within a head tube with a cam at a top end and a pair of forks at a bottom end to which is coupled an axle of the wheel. An arm may be disposed on and rotatably coupled to the seat assembly, and rotatably coupled to a left armrest and right armrest. A steering rod may be coupled to the cam and to one of the arms, the left armrest or the right armrest, such that forward movement of one of the armrests causes the steering rod to be translated forward and the cam to rotate in one direction, and backward movement of the same armrest causes the steering rod to be translated backward and the cam to rotate in an opposite direction.

Arm Powered Cycle

An arm powered cycle has an arm drive with a hand bar. Oscillating fore and aft movement of the hand bar is converted to rotational movement to drive a driven wheel by a dual, reverse motion slip clutch. The hand bar can have a U-shaped yoke with a seat positioned between uprights of the yoke. The yoke can be combined with an integrated steering mechanism to both drive the driven wheel and turn a directional wheel. A combiner can combine motion from the arm drive and a leg drive.

A physiotherapeutic conveyance with a forwardly mounted wheel, a chassis relative to which said forwardly mounted wheel is mounted, a seat mounted relative to said chassis on a seating mount, a rear axle associated with a pair of outwardly disposed first and second rear wheels, and a steering assembly associated with said pair of outwardly disposed rear wheels, wherein said steering assembly comprises a steering mechanism operable to adjust the orientation of the rear wheels.

HAND BICYCLE PEDAL
20220250712 · 2022-08-11 ·

Hand pedals for turning the crank set of an arm driven tricycle have modular interchangeable components including a bearing which mounts on the spindle of the crank. A bridge connects the bearing to a handle. The bridge has two legs connected by a transverse spar. Different bridges and handles may be used having different sizes, shapes, lengths and angular orientations which allow the hand pedals to be customized to accommodate a particular user. Hand pedals may also be used on hand cranked bicycles, stationary hand cranked bicycles and industrial equipment.

Linearly actuated vehicle with coiling power link

Vehicle including a frame, a seat, a wheel, a drive sprocket arranged on the wheel, a main drive sprocket, a transmission member coupling the drive sprockets, a pedal slider arranged in front of the seat and which swings forward and rearward, and a drive mechanism including an overrunning clutch system connected to the main drive sprocket. A power link is connected at a first end region to the pedal slider and at a second end region to the clutch system. Forward movement of the pedal slider causes movement of the power link and rotation of the clutch system which causes movement of the main drive sprocket and the wheel drive sprocket resulting in rotation of the wheel. The clutch system includes a drum including a groove in which the power link is retained.

Vehicular transmission systems includes a frame, a wheel drive sprocket associated with a wheel, a main drive sprocket mounted on the frame, a transmission member rotationally coupling the drive sprockets, a pedal slider coupled to the frame and which swings forward and rearward, and a drive mechanism including an overrunning clutch system connected to the main drive sprocket. A power link is connected at a first end region to the pedal slider and at a second end region to the clutch system. Forward movement of the pedal slider causes movement of the power link and rotation of the clutch system which causes rotation of the main drive sprocket and the wheel drive sprocket resulting in rotation of the wheel. The clutch system includes a drum over which the power link passes, and which has a circular portion and a fin extending radially outward therefrom.

Dynamically balanced in-line wheel vehicle

A family of vehicles is presented which exploit dynamic controls to stabilize in-line two wheeled vehicles. The stabilization results in improved safety at high speeds and on uncooperative surfaces. Stabilization affords balance at zero speed without auxiliary support means. Transformational wheel base length affords high visibility at low speeds and low drag at high speeds. In wheel chair configurations transforming wheel base length allows navigation up and down stairs.

Recumbent bicycle and methods of riding employing supplemental upper body power, enhanced aerodynamics, stability, and control

Disclosed is a recumbent bicycle configuration, structure and methods which allow effective hand power input using only components otherwise required to pedal and steer. Force and work based hand power methods are used. The effect is comparable to standing and pedaling a conventional bicycle. The configuration has front wheel drive and steering. The crankset is fork mounted on or near the steering axis. The fork has a double triangulated torque tube structure which is rigid from the hand grips to the crankshaft endpoints to torsional hand and foot forces in opposition. Pedal forces on steering are controlled by a hand over foot leverage ratio, and by use of trail, which is increasingly effective with speed. A fork mounted fairing can be used. For stability, the fairing aerodynamic center of presented area is ahead of the steering axis. Hand, foot and selective braking inputs are used for enhanced control.
