Control program adaptation based on device status and user input
A surgical system comprising a surgical instrument, a generator configured to supply power to an end effector, and a processor configured to run a control program to operate the surgical system is disclosed. The surgical instrument comprises the end effector which includes a first jaw and a second jaw. At least one of the first jaw and the second jaw is moved with respect to one another between an open position and a closed position. Tissue is configured to be positioned between the first jaw and the second jaw. The processor is configured to detect a first parameter of the surgical system, detect at least one user input, and modify the control program in response to the detected first parameter and the at least one user input.
Authentication Systems and Methods for An Excimer Laser System
The invention provides an excimer laser system including a means for authenticating laser probes to be used with the excimer laser system via radio-frequency identification techniques.
SELF-OPERATING BELT
A method of treating tissue of a patient uses a device including a mother case, a belt, at least one treatment unit and at least two applicators. The treatment method may include attaching first and second applicators to the belt at a working distance to the patient's surface, and providing different treatment energy to the first applicator and the second applicator. A treatment pattern is created by the applicators providing the different treatment energies. The hardware pattern or positions of the applicators on the belt may be changed before and/or during the treatment. The hardware pattern may be based on selected treatment effect and body part.
Modular battery powered handheld surgical instrument with motor drive
A surgical instrument includes a handle assembly; a shaft assembly and an end effector. The shaft assembly includes an exterior shaft, a first clutch positioned within the exterior shaft to drive a first function of the surgical instrument when engaged. A second clutch within the exterior shaft to drive a second function when engaged. A rotary driver is positioned within the exterior shaft and configured to rotate within the exterior shaft. The rotary driver includes a first clutch engagement mechanism to engage the first clutch and a second clutch engagement mechanism configured to engage the second clutch independent of the first clutch engagement mechanism engaging the first clutch, such that, at different times both the first clutch and the second clutch are engaged simultaneously only the first clutch is engaged only the second clutch is engaged and neither the first clutch nor the second clutch is engaged simultaneously.
Modular battery powered handheld surgical instrument with multiple magnetic position sensors
A system comprising a surgical instrument is disclosed. The surgical instrument includes a handle, a shaft, a plurality of magnets, a plurality of sensors configured to determine a distance away from one or more of the plurality of magnets, and a processor communicatively coupled to the plurality of sensors. The processor is configured to determine a three dimensional change in position of the shaft by computing a three dimensional change in position of the one or more magnets, using the change in the distances determined by the one or more plurality of sensors.
SIGNAL TAG DETECTION COMPONENTS, DEVICES, AND SYSTEMS
Provided herein are systems, devices, assemblies, and methods for localization of a tag in a tissue of a patient. For example, provided herein are systems, devices, and methods employing a detection component that is attached to or integrated with a surgical device, where the detection component detects a signal from a tag in a patient, where the tag is activated by remote introduction of a magnetic field.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DETERMINING A DEVICE-SPECIFIC OPERATING CONFIGURATION FOR A MICROWAVE GENERATOR
A microwave generator includes a microwave signal generator configured to deliver a microwave signal to a microwave instrument coupled to the microwave generator and a generator controller storing a plurality of resistance value indicators. A device ID reader is configured to measure a resistance of the coupled microwave instrument. The generator controller is configured to compare the measured resistance of the coupled microwave instrument with the plurality of resistance value indicators to identify a type of the coupled microwave instrument. An instrument monitoring controller is configured to communicate a data request to the coupled microwave instrument based on the identified type of the coupled microwave instrument. The generator controller is configured to set at least one operating threshold of the microwave generator based on one of an operating configuration corresponding to one of the plurality of resistance value indicators or data communicated from the coupled microwave instrument.
Methods of determining catheter orientation
Systems, devices and methods of determining orientation of a distal end of a medical instrument (e.g., electrode-tissue orientation of an RF ablation catheter) are described herein. One or more processors may be configured to receive temperature measurements from each of a plurality of temperature-measurement devices distributed along a length of the distal end of the medical instrument and determine the orientation from a group of two or more possible orientation options based on whether temperature measurement values or characteristics of temperature response determined from the temperature measurement values satisfy one or more orientation criteria.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR CONTROLLING POWER IN AN ELECTROSURGICAL GENERATOR
The electrosurgical systems and corresponding methods of the present disclosure involve an electrosurgical generator, sensing circuitry, and a controller. The electrosurgical generator includes a radio frequency (RF) output stage that supplies power to tissue. The sensing circuitry measures impedance of tissue. The controller controls the power supplied from the RF output stage to track a nonlinear power curve until the power supplied from the RF output stage has reached a predetermined peak power of the nonlinear power curve. The controller further determines whether a tissue reaction has occurred based on impedance measured by the sensing circuitry and controls the power supplied from the RF output stage during a cooling phase if the controller determines that a tissue reaction has occurred. The controller may further control the power supplied from the RF output stage to track a linear power curve.
SURGICAL SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR PROTECTING AGAINST UNAUTHORIZED USE
A surgical device includes a limited-use component configured to perform a surgical operation, where the limited-use component can be used for a pre-determined number of uses, and a reusable component operationally coupled to the limited-use component. The limited-use component includes a body forming a pocket and a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag disposed within the pocket. The reusable component includes an RFID tag transceiver configured to read operating parameters from a memory of the RFID tag of the limited-use component. The operating parameters are erased from the memory when the limited-use component has been used for the pre-determined number of uses.
