Lesion assessment using peak-to-peak impedance amplitude measurement
A method and system for lesion formation assessment in tissue that has undergone an ablation procedure. In one embodiment, a method of assessing lesion formation comprises: recording a baseline impedance measurement from an area of tissue with a medical device; ablating the area of tissue with the medical device; recording a post-treatment impedance measurement from the area of tissue with the medical device; identifying at least one amplitude characteristic of the baseline impedance measurement and identifying at least one amplitude characteristic of the post-treatment impedance measurement; comparing the at least one amplitude characteristic of the baseline impedance measurement and the at least one amplitude characteristic of the post-treatment impedance measurement; generating an indication of efficacy based on the comparison, the indication of efficacy being one of sufficient lesion formation and insufficient lesion formation; and re-ablating the area of tissue if the indication of efficacy is insufficient lesion formation.
EXPANDABLE CATHETER ASSEMBLY WITH FLEXIBLE PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD (PCB) ELECTRICAL PATHWAYS
Provided is a flex-PCB catheter device that is configured to be inserted into a body lumen. The flex-PCB catheter comprises an elongate shaft, an expandable assembly, a flexible printed circuit board (flex-PCB) substrate, a plurality of electronic components and a plurality of communication paths. The elongate shaft comprises a proximal end and a distal end. The expandable assembly is configured to transition from a radially compact state to a radially expanded state. The plurality of electronic elements are coupled to the flex-PCB substrate and are configured to receive and/or transmit an electric signal. The plurality of communication paths are positioned on and/or within the flex-PCB substrate. The communication paths selectively couple the plurality of electronic elements to a plurality of electrical contacts configured to electrically connect to an electronic module configured to process the electrical signal. The flex-PCB substrate can have multiple layers, including one or more metallic layers. Acoustic matching elements and conductive traces can be includes in the flex-PCB substrate.
APPARATUS AND METHODS FOR TREATMENT OF OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNEA UTILIZING CRYOLYSIS OF ADIPOSE TISSUES
A heat exchanger is disclosed for causing cryolysis of adipose tissue of a human tongue. The heat exchanger includes a body having cooling channels for circulating fluids therein. The body forms a contact surface that contacts a portion of the dorsal surface of the tongue and a portion of the base of the tongue. The heat exchanger includes a pair of side walls extending from the body and forming a pair of side contact surfaces that are dimensioned so that they contact the dorsal and lateral surfaces of the tongue in a manner so as to constrict the tongue when the contact surface is in contact with the tongue. A method of treatment for apnea using the heat exchanger and/or administering a chemical adipolysis formulation/vasoconstriction agent is also disclosed.
