A bistable pitch propeller includes a ball, a spring, and a clutch module where the clutch module has a range of rotational movement between a locked end position and a released end position. The clutch module includes a detent, where the ball sits inside and outside of the detent when the clutch module is in the locked end position and released end position, respectively. In response to an input torque and a spring force from the spring, the clutch module rotates toward the released end position and the locked end position, respectively. The bistable pitch propeller also includes an aircraft blade where the aircraft blade is at the first pitch angle and the second pitch angle when the clutch module is in the locked end position and the released end position, respectively.

A method for controlling a propulsion system of a marine vehicle is disclosed. A controller forms data on pitch angles of at least two foils, which are in a rotatable manner attached with a foil wheel, based on at least an angularly variable eccentricity of the at least two foils and an angle of rotation of the foil wheel. The variable eccentricity is limited at a portion of the angle of rotation of the foil wheel. An actuator arrangement receives the data from the controller and sets the at least two foils at the pitch angles based on the data.

Provided is a driving apparatus of a variable pitch propeller having blades, each of which has a pitch angle changed in a rotational direction of a propeller shaft, and a pitch adjuster for adjusting the pitch angle. The pitch adjuster includes blade actuating shafts that are connected to eccentric stubs coupled to lower ends of the blades and are disposed inside the propeller shaft so as to allow linear reciprocation and to push or pull the eccentric stubs, and a power converter that converts a rotating motion of the propeller shaft into a linearly reciprocating motion of the blade actuating shafts.

A blade pitch control system for a cycloidal marine propulsion system is provided. The cycloidal marine propulsion system comprises a rotating wheel, and a plurality of rotating blades attached to the rotating wheel and individually rotatable with respect to the rotating wheel. The blade pitch control system comprises at least one rotating wheel position sensor, configured to provide a sensor signal indicative of a measured position of the rotating wheel, a wheel position estimation unit, configured to determine an estimated position of the rotating wheel based upon the sensor signal of the at least one rotating wheel position sensor, and a blade pitch determining unit, configured to determine a blade pitch set point for at least one of the plurality of rotating blades based upon the estimated position of the rotating wheel. Determining the estimated position of the rotating wheel comprises a data processing activity of the sensor signal.
