A device (500) for controlling the ground clearance of an airship (200), the airship being provided with two lateral anchoring points (212), said device comprising: a frame (502), on which a weight (504) is fixed; two (rigid) arms (506), each arm having one end, called proximal end, that is articulated on the frame and one end, called distal end; means for moving the distal end of each arm between a position, called retention position, in which each distal end is in contact with a lateral anchoring end of the airship that is said to be connected to said distal end, and a position, called unlocked position, in which there is no contact between the airship and the docking station; and means for detachably fixing, in the retaining position, the respective distal end of each arm on the associated respective lateral anchoring point.

In one embodiments, a jig for constructing a mainframe of an airship structure may have a first rail and a second rail that are configured to be parallel to each other, the first rail and the second rail each forming an arc, multiple first supporting structures coupled to the first rail, wherein the first supporting structures have non-uniform heights to support a curvature of the arc of the first rail, multiple second supporting structures coupled to the second rail, wherein the second supporting structures have non-uniform heights to support a curvature of the arc of the second rail, wherein the first rail and the second rail are configured to interface with detachable wheels coupled to an outer surface of the mainframe and enable the mainframe to be rotated along its axis on the jig.

A balloon is provided having an exostructure comprised of hollow struts or rods and an envelope positioned over the exostructure, and a pump for pumping air out of the balloon to create an air pressure differential between the pressure inside the envelope and the atmospheric pressure outside the envelope, a control system configured to allow air to flow into the envelope to control the altitude of the balloon, and to operate the pump to pump air out of the envelope to control the altitude of the balloon, wherein the material of the envelope is arranged so as to sag between the struts or rods and form at least one catenary surface when there is an air pressure differential between the pressure inside of the balloon envelope and the atmospheric pressure outside the envelope.
