Laparoscopic Oximeter and Protective Method for Reuse of Portions of the Laparoscopic Oximeter

A method for housing a reusable portion of an oximeter device in a sheath includes providing the oximeter device as a probe unit and a laparoscopic tube separated from each other. The probe unit is handled by a first operator in a nonsterile environment and the laparoscopic tube is handled by a second operator in a sterile environment. The first operator connects the probe unit and the laparoscopic tube to form the oximeter device. The sheath is coupled to the laparoscopic tube in a folded configuration and is pulled by the second operator to enclose the probe unit. The oximeter device is in the sterile environment when the probe unit is in the sheath. The oximeter device is for use in an intraoperative procedure and the sheath inhibits the probe unit from contacting contaminants so that the probe unit is reusable, whereas the laparoscopic tube can be disposed of.

Skin Packaging With Protective Sheath

A package assembly including a sheath, a pouch, and an outer enclosure. The sheath includes perforations that extend across the sheath along an orientation that is transverse to an elongate dimension of the sheath. The sheath is configured to receive and enclose an implant or a surgical instrument. The pouch has an inner volume that receives the sheath, the inner volume of the pouch being configured to be vacuum sealed. The outer enclosure is designed to receive the pouch. The sheath is made of a material with greater rigidity than the pouch.

The invention concerns an apparatus comprising a sterile cover and a protective cover. The sterile cover may be configured to prevent a contamination of a surface. The protective cover may be configured to fit over a first portion of the sterile cover and provide protection against a sharp edge piercing the sterile cover. The first portion of the sterile cover may be within the protective cover. A second portion of the sterile cover creates an open end that may extend out of an open edge of the protective cover. The open end and the open edge may enable the sterile cover and the protective cover to slide over a top side and a bottom side of the surface together. An attachment may connect the protective cover to the sterile cover.
