Surgical Drill With Telescoping Member
20230263538 · 2023-08-24 · ·

A surgical drill for use with a drill bit. The drill includes a handpiece with a motor and a brake mechanism. The brake mechanism is a sliding rack adjacent a first end and a second end with a stop adjacent the drill bit. An actuator is mounted to the handpiece and a plunger is coupled to the actuator. A sensor asserts a signal when the drill bit penetrates bone. When the sensor asserts the signal indicting the drill bit penetrated bone, the actuator moves the plunger into engagement with the rack to prevent further insertion of the drill bit.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR CONTROLLING MOTOR VELOCITY OF A SURGICAL STAPLING AND CUTTING INSTRUMENT ACCORDING TO ARTICULATION ANGLE OF END EFFECTOR

A motorized surgical instrument is disclosed. The surgical instrument includes a displacement member, a motor, a control circuit, and a position sensor. The displacement member is configured to translate. The motor is coupled to the displacement member to translate the displacement member. The control circuit is coupled to the motor. A position sensor is coupled to the control circuit. The position sensor is configured to measure the position of the displacement member and to measure an articulation angle of an end effector relative to a longitudinally extending shaft. The control circuit is configured to determine the articulation angle between the end effector and the longitudinally extending shaft and set motor velocity based on the articulation angle.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR PREDICTING AND PREVENTING BLEEDING AND OTHER ADVERSE EVENTS

Various systems, methods, and devices for identifying instrument movements likely to cause intraoperative bleeding are described. An example method includes identifying a movement of an instrument; determining that the movement of the instrument exceeds a threshold; and dampening the movement of the instrument based on determining that the movement exceeds the threshold.

Device for collecting particles in an exhaled air flow
11730393 · 2023-08-22 · ·

A device for collecting aerosol particles in an exhaled air flow. The particles may be aerosol particles such as biomarkers or particles related to drugs or other substances formed or found in the alveoli of the lungs. The device comprises an elongate housing with an inner wall and at least four first type partition walls extending substantially perpendicularly from opposite sides of the inner wall to partly cover the cross-section of the housing. The first type partition walls create a labyrinth shaped flow path to divert air flowing from the inlet towards the outlet of the housing in a direction towards opposite inner walls of the housing so that the particles separate from the air flow and attach on the device. The distance between two opposite first type partition walls is smaller than the transverse width of the housing and increases in the flow direction.

Locking assembly for medical device

A medical device assembly may include a stylet having a distal stylet body and a proximal stylet hub, a cannula having a distal cannula body and a proximal cannula hub, and a lock for securing the stylet to the cannula, wherein the lock includes at least one abutment on at least one of the stylet hub and the cannula hub for restricting relative movement between the stylet hub and the cannula hub.

Rod reducer ratchet lock-out mechanism

Spinal surgical procedures can benefit from a rod reduction instrument with a ratchet lock-out mechanism. The instrument can include an inner shaft, an outer housing and a ratchet mechanism. The inner shaft can include a threaded proximal portion and a distal end that includes a plurality of engagement members adapted to receive a pedicle screw. The outer housing can be slidably received over the inner shaft, and include a top sleeve and a bottom sleeve. The top sleeve can include the ratchet mechanism to selectively engage the threaded proximal portion of the inner shaft and the bottom sleeve can engage a connecting rod. The ratchet mechanism can include an engagement feature to selectively engage the threaded proximal portion of the inner shaft, and a locking mechanism to selectively lock the engagement feature of the ratchet mechanism against the threaded proximal portion of the inner shaft.
