The cylindrical sleeve body includes an outer surface, an inner surface, the inner surface defining a hollow sleeve channel, and at least one open end. The sleeve body is configured to receive an insertion portion of a medical speculum in the hollow sleeve channel, and the sleeve body is further configured to expand from a first state to a second state.
Monitoring and controlling energy delivery of an electrosurgical device
A method is disclosed for delivering energy to a region of tissue within a patient's body using a medical treatment system. The medical treatment system comprises an energy delivery device coupled to an energy source and the method includes steps of delivering energy, measuring an energy delivery parameter, determining distance of the energy delivery device from a conductive object and optionally adjusting a position of the energy delivery device based on the determined distance.
APPARATUS FOR DETERMINING A POSITION OF A TEMPERATURE PROBE DURING A PLANNING FOR AN ABLATION PROCEDURE
The invention refers to an apparatus allowing to determine a planned position of a temperature probe during a planning for an ablation procedure. The apparatus comprises an ablation plan providing unit (121) for providing an ablation plan, wherein the ablation plan comprises geometric information of an ablation region and of a protection region. The protection region should be protected from ablation. The geometric information comprises information on a position and shape of a respective region. A temperature probe position determination unit (122) is adapted to determine a planned position of the temperature probe, wherein the planned position of the temperature probe is determined based on the geometric information of the ablation region and of the protection region. The apparatus allows to increase the protection of regions that should be protected, like a specific organ, such that the security of an ablation procedure for a patient can also be increased.
System and method for deflection of a body lumen
A positioning device configured for introduction within a body lumen. Some embodiments include a catheter shaft with a longitudinal axis; an expandable element coupled along a length of the shaft, the expandable element being substantially thin and flexible in an unexpanded state and exerting a gentle outward force in an expanded state; and a deflection mechanism located within the shaft, wherein the deflection mechanism is flexible when in a non-deflected state and wherein, in the deflected state, the deflection curves in a predetermined lateral direction such that the positioning device laterally deflects the body lumen. In some embodiments, the deflection is a lateral curve that moves the body lumen away from a surgical site, such as a cardiac ablation site.
DEVICES AND METHODS FOR CAPSULE SHIELDING IN CATARACT SURGERY
Aspects of embodiments pertain to a lens capsule shielding device for cataract surgery, the shielding device comprising a handle and at least one shielding element slidably mounted inside the handle. The shielding element is selectively configurable in an deployed configuration and a retracted configuration, wherein the at least one shielding element, in the deployed configuration, is operable to be positionable between lens portions of the patient's eye and posterior lens capsule portion of the eye and configured to function as a shield for preventing damage of the posterior lens capsule portion during the application of energy for fragmenting lens portions and/or for preventing damage from suction forces applied for the removal of lens fragments.
Visualization-Enabled Ablation Catheters, Systems, and Methods
Ablation catheters and systems include catheter tips with at least one hollow needle that is extendable at an angle from the catheter body to ablate a target prostate tissue while avoiding structures in regions near the prostate tissue, including the urethra, the ejaculatory duct, and the rectum wall. The vapor ablation system has a pump, a catheter that includes a connection port positioned on a proximal end of the catheter, a lumen in fluid communication with the connection port and configured to receive, via the connection port, saline from the pump, at least one electrode positioned within the lumen, and at least two positioning elements, having a lumen with vapor ports between them and configured to be coupled to the distal tip of the catheter. Embodiments of catheter handle mechanisms are described that provide ergonomic methods for handling and using the catheter.
Cutting guard with radiofrequency dissection
A cutting guard for use with a wound retractor includes a body having a lumen including a flexible inner surface with a ground contact extending therethrough. A ground guard is included having proximal and distal openings that define a guard lumen therethrough, the ground guard encapsulating the flexible inner surface of the body lumen. A biasing element is disposed within the guard lumen and encircles the flexible inner surface and biases the flexible inner surface inwardly. A cutting electrode is disposed proximate the distal opening of the ground guard and connects to a first electrical potential and the ground guard connects to a second electrical potential. Upon externalizing of tissue through the distal opening, oversized tissue forces the flexible inner surface of the body lumen and the ground contact outwardly to engage the ground guard to complete an electrical circuit and energize the cutting electrode to excise oversized tissue.
LOCAL COOLING ANESTHESIA DEVICE, METHOD OF CONTROLLING LOCAL COOLING ANESTHESIA DEVICE, AND COOLING TEMPERATURE REGULATOR OF LOCAL COOLING ANESTHESIA DEVICE
Disclosed is a local cooling anesthesia device for spraying a coolant on a treatment site. The local cooling anesthesia device includes a housing which forms an outward form and from which the coolant is sprayed and a spraying unit installed in the housing to spray the coolant. The device also includes a cooling temperature regulator connected to the spraying unit to apply thermal energy to the sprayed coolant for temperature regulation and a control unit connected to the cooling temperature regulator to control the cooling temperature regulator. The cooling anesthesia device has functions of measuring and regulating the temperature of the coolant, and thus can apply the coolant to the treatment site within a safe temperature range according to the purpose of treatment, thereby enabling a desired treatment purpose such as local anesthesia to be safely and rapidly accomplished without side effects such as cytoclasis.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR MECHANICAL DISPLACEMENT OF AN ESOPHAGUS
An example assembly for use with a vacuum system and an esophageal positioning device esophageal positioning device includes an introducer, in which the esophageal positioning device includes a first segment and a second segment. The second segment is pivotally connected to the first segment. A gap portion of an outer tube of the introducer is defined along a longitudinal axis between a tube tip of the introducer and the distal end of the second segment of the esophageal positioning device when the esophageal positioning device is disposed within the introducer. The gap portion defines one or more radial vacuum holes.
