The upper body shield further has at least one curved frame arm configured to attach to the headrest, a top cover that couples to the at least one curved frame arm configured to shield a patient's head and neck, and a drape configured to couple to the at least one frame arm and configured to shield sides of the patient.

SANITARY EXTUBATION COVER AND METHOD FOR ITS USE

A sanitary extubation cover used to cover an endotracheal tube and a patient's face in order to accommodate sanitary extubation. The sanitary extubation cover includes a mask and a cover which covers the endotracheal tube. If the patient coughs, the cough would be directed into the mask and the endotracheal tube (which is covered by the cover) but contaminants from the cough would be suppressed from spreading into the open air. The mask can have an air cushion at the bottom of the mask in order to securely press against the patient's face. The mask can also have a solid silicone base at the bottom of the mask in order to securely press against the patient's face.

Embodiments of the invention comprise a blade that has a gripping portion, a transition portion and a distal portion that may have a cutting edge. The gripping portion may be V-shaped in cross-section, or, more generally, not lying in a single plane. Some embodiments are straight along a longitudinal direction. Embodiments may comprise a transition portion that is complex having sub-regions, or a distal portion having a cross-sectional shape that is curved or V-shaped, or a distal portion having a tip of a different material. Other embodiments have a shape that follows a longitudinal path that is curved either concavely or convexly or both. Distal tip design parameters for good cutting properties are discussed.

An apparatus includes a splash shield incorporating a clear viewing area, a vacuum manifold, the vacuum manifold adapted to releasebly engage the splash shield, and a link emanating from the vacuum manifold, the link configured to attach to a vacuum system wherein application of a vacuum creates a laminar flow to draw vapor away from the splash shield.

Conditioning a laser-tissue contact surface

A nozzle device (1) comprises a plurality of multi-fluid nozzles (5) and a body (2) with a bore (8). The bore (8) has a laser entrance (82) and a laser exit (81). The nozzle device (1) is adapted to be mounted to a laser medical device such that a laser beam generated by the laser medical device enters the laser entrance (82) of the bore (8) of the body (2) and exits the laser exit (81) of the bore (8) of the body (2). The body (2) houses the multi-fluid nozzles (5) and the multi-fluid nozzles (5) are arranged around the laser exit (81) of the bore (8) of the body (2). The nozzle device (1) allows to conditioning a tissue at and near where it is cut or drilled by the laser beam of the laser medical device. Thus, the nozzle device (1) is particularly suitable for a laser osteotomic device allowing to minimize collateral damages of the tissue when being cut or drilled.

Surgical navigation trackers with guards

Surgical navigation trackers with guards are described that can aid in protecting tracking elements from accumulating liquids thereon, which can negatively impact surgical navigation performance. The surgical navigation trackers described herein can be utilized with a variety of systems and procedures. For example, in one embodiment a system is described that includes a surgical device having an end effector configured for manipulating tissue and a surgical navigation tracker configured to be coupled to any of a surgical instrument and an anatomical structure. The surgical navigation tracker can include a tracking element and a guard configured to be positioned between the tracking element and the cutting tool, as well as a tracking unit configured to determine a position of the surgical navigation tracker.

EXAMINATION GARMENT FOR ENDOSCOPY

An examination garment for endoscopy includes a covering portion and a first fluid suppression member. A pants-type covering portion has an insertion port that covers a subject, who is a test object, from a torso portion to a thigh portion, and allows an insertion part of the endoscope to be inserted thereinto. The first fluid suppression member is provided in the insertion port of the covering portion and suppresses passage of the fluid in the insertion port.

Apparatus and techniques for blocking radiation in a medical environment are described. In one or more embodiments, a lock-block shield device includes a base that is configured to adhesively couple to an object associated with a patient. In some embodiments, the base includes a lock mechanism for securing a work piece that has a generally tubular shape. A shield that is configured to at least partially block transmission of radiation can be coupled to the base in a releasable manner. For example, a clasp is used to secure the base and shield together. In embodiments, a ball and socket joint couples the shield and base to permit, for example, the shield to pivot and articulate with respect to the base.
