Emergency parachute
09656758 · 2017-05-23 ·

An emergency parachute is a device for allowing the user to eject from a perilous high-altitude structure and float to safety once clear of the structure. The emergency parachute features a vest that may be donned by the user. The user is required to face toward the structure that he or she is escaping. In order to activate the canopy of the emergency parachute, the user is required to engage a first activation handle and a second activation handle of a simultaneous activation dual switch. The simultaneous activation dual switch ensures that the canopy is not accidentally deployed. A chute-inflation gas generator inflates the canopy and simultaneously ejects the user backward. The ejection serves the twofold purpose of ensuring that the user is able to clear the structure that he or she is escaping as well as aiding the user in overcoming any fears of jumping from a high altitude.

Rigidized assisted opening system for high altitude parafoils

Described are a parafoil for operation at high altitudes, in low density air, or at low airspeeds, and methods for opening same. The parafoil comprises flexible members connected to the parafoil canopy. When the parafoil canopy is in a stowed configuration, the members are deformed, storing elastic energy. When the canopy is released from its stowed configuration, the members spring back to their undeformed shapes, thereby opening or assisting with opening the canopy. The flexible members may also be attached to a base structure, which is attached to the payload. The members may comprise rods or hollow tubes that can be flexed using a fulcrum near the base structure, or a spacer plate, so that the ends connected to the canopy are restrained by a parachute bag containing the stowed or packed canopy. The parachute bag can be opened prior to or during detachment of the parafoil from the flight vehicle.

A back mounted flight machine comprises a frame comprising a connecting bracket, a pair of lateral arms extending from the connector bracket, and an engine mounted on each of the lateral arms in a selected position. A harness is mounted on the connecting bracket of the frame between the pair of lateral arms. Further, a fastening mechanism is provided for connecting the harness to the connecting bracket to permit relative movement between the harness and the frame in a plurality of orientations.

Retainer apparatus for use with a pilot chute launcher and method for packing a parachute using a pilot chute launcher and retainer apparatus
09533660 · 2017-01-03 ·

An apparatus facilitating packing of a racecar parachute using a pilot chute launcher, the apparatus comprised of a slotted metal plate, a pair of notched tabs, and a pair of extensions selected to removably couple with the notched tabs and the plate. In use, the notched tabs, notched sides facing away from one another, are positioned and affixed to opposing sides of a parachute bag bottom plate. The parachute and pilot chute launcher are packed into the parachute bag. The extensions are inserted into opposing slots on the plate, and by engaging the extensions with the notched tabs, the pilot chute launcher is compressed. A top and a bottom flap of the parachute bag is secured over the plate in a usual fashion. The extensions and the plate are sequentially removed, and the parachute is continued to be packed in the usual fashion.
