Integrated cargo fire suppression and inerting system
An integrated fire suppression system receives inert gas from onboard gas generators and water effluent from onboard water generators. The inert gas and water effluent are mixed in a gas-water mixer to generate an inert aerosol. The inert aerosol is provided to a fire suppressant distribution network and sprayed into areas of the aircraft requiring fire suppression to provide cooling and to prevent reignition.
AUXILIARY POWER UNIT WITH INTERCOOLER
An auxiliary power unit for an aircraft, having a compressor, an intercooler including first conduit(s) having an inlet in fluid communication with the compressor outlet and second conduit(s) configured for circulation of a coolant therethrough, an engine core having an inlet in fluid communication with an outlet of the first conduit(s), and a bleed conduit in fluid communication with the outlet of the first conduit(s) through a bleed air valve. The auxiliary power unit may include a generator in driving engagement with the shaft of the engine core to provide electrical power for the aircraft. A method of providing compressed air and electrical power to an aircraft is also discussed.
Exhaust plume cooling using periodic interruption of exhaust gas flow to form ambient air entraining vortices
An exhaust plume cooling device for cooling an exhaust gas plume to reduce deleterious heat effects on impinged and surrounding surfaces. The device is supportable in a position downstream of an exhaust nozzle of an exhaust gas plume-producing engine and configured to periodically interrupt the flow of exhaust gases by injecting fluid into the exhaust plume zone.
EMERGENCY POWER UNIT FOR ELECTRIC AIRCRAFT
Electric aircraft power plants and associated methods are provided. One power plant includes an emergency power unit (EPU) for providing electric power in the event of a malfunction of a battery pack of an electric aircraft to permit the electric aircraft to make an emergency maneuver. The EPU includes a rocket engine for generating a stream of exhaust fluid using a rocket propellant, a turbine operatively connected to extract energy from the stream of exhaust fluid generated by the rocket engine, and an electric generator operatively connected to be driven by the turbine and to supply electric power to an electric motor propelling the electric aircraft.
AUXILIARY POWER UNIT ENCLOSURE AND METHOD OF MAKING THE SAME
An auxiliary power unit enclosure of an aircraft includes a space frame configured to carry a load and defining an auxiliary power unit compartment. The space frame includes a plurality of frame elements coupled together at a plurality of nodes. The auxiliary power unit enclosure also includes a fairing coupled to and surrounding the space frame.
Direct current stabilization power supply system
A first DC power supply section of a DC stabilization power supply system includes at least a generator and a PWM converter. A second DC power supply section of the DC stabilization power supply system includes at least a battery and a boost converter. Each of these DC power supply sections performs a power supply stabilization operation for supplying DC power to an electric system and absorbing regenerative power generated from an actuator or the like. A PWM converter controls adjustment of the amount of the power supply stabilization operation to be performed by the DC power supply section and the amount of the power stabilization operation to be performed by the DC power supply section, by changing a target voltage value of a DC bus.
AIR CYCLE MACHINE CONNECTED TO ENGINE GEARBOX
Disclosed is an air cycle machine (ACM) having: a turbine; a compressor; a compressor shaft connected to the compressor and configured to receive rotational energy from a gearbox; and a turbine shaft connected to the turbine and configured to provide rotational energy to the gearbox; wherein the turbine shaft and the compressor shaft operate at different rotational speeds.
Expedited preflight readiness system for aircraft
An expedited preflight readiness system for aircraft includes a power source having one or more battery modules for storing electrical power. An integrated controller is electrically and communicatively coupled with the power source for monitoring and controlling the power source to provide electrical power to aircraft subsystems. A mobile device is communicatively coupled with the integrated controller for communicating instructions to the integrated controller for initiating preflight readiness of the aircraft and for monitoring preflight readiness. A method for preconditioning an aircraft includes determining a state-of-charge of an APU and activating an environmental control subsystem for preconditioning the aircraft by adjusting a current temperature according to a preconditioning profile based on one or more of a target temperature, a target time, the current temperature, an outside air temperature, an amount of energy, and a state-of-charge of the APU.
Mount structure for an aircraft ancillary engine unit
A mount structure for mounting an ancillary engine unit to a gas turbine engine is provided. The mount structure has plural elongate struts which each extend from a connector portion at one end of the strut to a fastening portion at the other end of the strut. The housing of the ancillary engine unit is formed of a first material having a first coefficient of thermal expansion, and the elongate struts are formed of a second material having a second coefficient of thermal expansion. Each elongate strut extends away from its connector portion in a direction which is crosswise to the direction of the hypothetical differential thermal strain at that connector portion. The mount structure further has a containment bracket which is configured to contain each connector portion.
Elevator system for auxiliary power unit
An elevator system (400) to assist the installation of a heavy load (122), such as an auxiliary power unit (APU) in into a compartment of an aircraft (110) compartment (126). The elevator system includes bar assemblies which rotate to lift the load into the compartment. The bar assemblies rotate in synchrony.
