Reactive spoilers for aircraft and associated methods. In one embodiment, a wing of an aircraft includes a leading edge, a trailing edge, and an upper surface and a lower surface between the leading edge and the trailing edge. The wing further includes a reactive spoiler disposed on the upper surface between the leading edge and the trailing edge. The reactive spoiler comprises one or more turbines configured to raise in relation to the upper surface into an airflow passing over the upper surface, and to reduce lift of a wing section behind the turbines. The turbines are configured to convert kinetic energy from the airflow into electrical energy.

LOCKING AND UNLOCKING MECHANISM

A locking mechanism includes a linkage assembly having a first link (6a) and a second link (6b) joined at a pivot point (110). The assembly also includes a linkage assembly spring to bias the linkage assembly into a first, locked, position and a rotational rod (1) having a cam (120) formed thereon with a cam surface in engagement with the linkage assembly in the region of the pivot point (110). The assembly also includes a solenoid assembly (3) arranged, in a first mode, to rotate the rotational rod (1) such that the cam acts as a stop against the linkage assembly at the pivot point in a locked position, and, in a second mode to rotate the rotational rod such that the cam surface presses against the linkage assembly sufficiently to overcome the linkage assembly spring and to force the linkage assembly into a second, unlocked position.

Fuel cell system for an aircraft and method for providing an inert gas in an aircraft

A fuel cell system for an aircraft includes at least one fuel cell having a first inlet for providing a fuel, a second inlet for providing an oxidant, an outlet for removing exhaust air and a voltage outlet, an electrically operable hydraulic pump, which is integratable into a hydraulics network of the aircraft and connectable to the voltage outlet of the at least one fuel cell and a controllable hydraulic energy converter with changeable operating behaviour. The hydraulic energy converter is adapted for generating such a power demand in the hydraulics network, that the at least one fuel cell provides a predetermined volume flow of oxygen depleted air at the outlet through delivering electrical power to the hydraulic pump.

Emergency wind turbine system comprising a device for rotatably locking the turbine

An emergency wind turbine system for an aircraft including an outer structure in which an opening is made includes an emergency wind turbine including: a mast; a turbine including a body mounted on the mast that rotates about an axis of rotation, and a single blade or two blades extending radially from the body between a blade root and a blade head; a locking device to lock rotation of the turbine body about the axis of rotation, when the emergency wind turbine moves between retracted and deployed positions, such that the blade root axis forms an acute locking angle with an orthogonal projection of the longitudinal axis of the mast over a plane substantially perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the turbine and in which the blade root axis extends, to reduce the volume swept by the turbine when it moves between the retracted and deployed positions.
