KINETIC ENERGY TAXI SYSTEM AND THERMAL ENERGY RECOVERY SYSTEM

An aircraft with the capability of taxiing with main engines off uses the energy stored in a mechanical flywheel to power a propulsor(s) providing taxiing thrust. The flywheel can store energy generated by the propulsor operating as a wind turbine and/or by a power turbine in fluid coupling with the exhaust of a gas turbine engine and/or an expansion turbine operating with bleed and/or APU air.

Evaporative cooling in additive manufactured heat exchangers

A heat exchanger includes a plate with an external surface, a channel, and a nozzle. The external surface bounds an interior of the plate. The channel is disposed in the heat exchanger and passes through a portion of the interior. The nozzle is integrally disposed in the heat exchanger, extends through a portion of the external surface, and is fluidly connected to the channel. The nozzle is configured to transport a liquid from the channel, through the external surface, and to distribute the liquid onto a portion of the heat exchanger.

RAM AIR TURBINE INSTALLATION ALLOWING LOW SPEED FLIGHT

An installation configuration for a ram air turbine on an aircraft arranged to operate during a low speed operation. An example aircraft includes a fuselage and a lifting body connected to the fuselage and configured to provide a lifting force on the fuselage, the lifting body including a suction surface and a pressure surface disposed on opposite sides of the lifting body from each other, the suction surface extending from a leading edge of the lifting body to a trailing edge of the lifting body. A ram air turbine is coupled to the lifting body and configured to move between a retracted position where the ram air turbine is stowed inside the aircraft and an extended position where the ram air turbine is disposed above the suction surface of the lifting body.

Charging System for Aircraft and Drones

An auxiliary charging system comprising of: a recovering system for capturing kinetic energy from a propeller exhausted air; and at least two sets of propellers, one set of propellers is located on the electric motor, and the other set of propellers is situated on an alternator or the generator unit is in this process; the alternator can be located in the front or behind of an aircraft electric motor or aircraft wing or vice versa (Anywhere on the aircraft) for recharging batteries and supplying power back to the propeller electric motor that is powering the aircraft; the propeller electric motor and the alternator propeller is a non-connected systems. The exhausted kinetic energy air from the alternator propeller captures kinetic energy air from the propeller electric motor; this kinetic energy adds motion to the propeller driveshaft of the alternator. The propellers are arranged to transform this oscillating motion energy from one propeller to the next, propeller producing regenerated air energy from the oscillating movement of the kinetic energy air body into a mechanical motion.

A ram air turbine assembly includes one or more airfoils and a ram turbine operably connected to the one or more airfoils. The ram air turbine includes: a rotor; a stator that includes windings; and a self-regulating heater coupled to the stator. The self-regulating heater configured to vary power that passes through it based on a temperature of the heater.

GEOMETRIC APPROACH TO STRESS REDUCED INTRA-FLOW PATH SHROUDS FOR TUNING MODAL RESPONSES IN RAM AIR TURBINE ROTORS

A ram air turbine rotor comprises at least one intra-flow path shroud structure coupled between rotor blades, along a radial position between a support disc and an outer rim. The shroud structure includes shroud sectors each coupled between a respective pair of blades. The sectors each include a first edge adjacent to leading edges of the respective pair of blades, the first edge including a first curved segment, and a second edge adjacent to trailing edges of the respective pair of blades, the second edge including a second curved segment. The curved segments are each partially defined by a respective ellipse having a semi-major axis and a semi-minor axis. The semi-major axis is a portion of a spanwise distance between the respective pair of blades. The semi-minor axis is a portion of an axial distance between the leading edge of one blade and the trailing edge of an adjacent blade.

BUILT IN TEST (BIT) FOR TRANSFORMER RECTIFIER UNIT (TRU) BACKFEED INTERLOCK

A method includes performing a test for transformer rectifier unit (TRU) backfeed protection by removing AC power supplied to the TRU but keeping the TRU contactor closed for a first predetermined span of time. The method includes observing the TRU for a second predetermined span of time. The method includes determining if the contactor opens during the second span of time, that a TRU backfeed protection is functional and passes the test, and determining if the contactor does not open during the second span of time, that the TRU backfeed protection has failed the test.
