SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR CONTAINING AND REMOVING AEROSOL DURING A MEDICAL OR DENTAL PROCEDURE
Systems, methods and components thereof for preventing ambient spread of aerosol during a cosmetic, medical or dental procedure are disclosed. The systems and methods utilize a containment unit that includes a rigid or semi-rigid transparent shield and a transparent or translucent flexible bib extending from an outer periphery of the shield. The containment unit covers a portion of a patient while still allowing a professional to view and perform a procedure on that portion of the patient. The systems and methods further utilize an inlet that is usable to facilitate evacuation of air from a confined space created by the containment unit.
DEVICES, SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR IMPROVING SUCTION IN MEDICAL PROCEDURES
Systems and methods for removing material from a blood vessel or cavity inside a body by suction, wherein the magnitude of suction is increased by applying extracorporeal positive pressure. Positive pressure outside the body is increased such that the potential negative pressure inside the body may be increased. Methods include inserting a catheter into a blood vessel or cavity and positioning a distal opening of the catheter proximate the material to be removed. Extracorporeal positive pressure is applied to at least a portion of the body containing the material to be removed, and suction is simultaneously applied to the catheter to more effectively remove the material.
Apparatuses and methods for cutting a tissue bridge and/or removing a heart valve clip or suture
Apparatus for excising and removing a clip or suture joining leaflets of a native heart valve. The apparatus includes an elongate shaft configured for remote access to a native heart valve, the elongate shaft having a proximal end, a distal end, and a lumen defined therein, and a clamp at the distal end of the elongate shaft, the clamp configured to receive a clip or suture joining native leaflet tissue, the clamp including a passageway extending along a length thereof in communication with the lumen. The apparatus further includes a cutter moveable within the passageway to encompass a clip or suture joining native leaflet tissue received within the clamp and cut native leaflet tissue proximate the clip or suture.
SINGLE PORT INSTRUMENT ACCESS DEVICE
Disclosed are medical devices for surgical procedures, especially procedures that involve the manipulation of surgical instrument end effectors close to the skin surface at an incision site. In accordance with some embodiments, an instalment access device is configured to couple to a wound retractor at a distal end of the device and to receive a multiple instrument entry guide in a port at the proximal end of the instrument access device, with an envelope (822) between the distal (804) and proximal (812) ends defining a sealed cavity for maintaining insufflation pressure. Various embodiments provide means for rotating an assistant port in the envelope about a port that receives the instrument entry guide without twisting the envelope. Also disclosed are various envelope shapes. Also disclosed is an instrument entry guide that aligns surgical instrument shafts.
Intubation Protective Enclosure and Method of Use and Disinfecting
The current invention provides an enclosure that can be placed over a patient in order to contain bodily fluids. The device includes a clear plastic sheet that fits snugly over a frame. The sides of the device contain access ports for physicians or their instruments to enter the patient’s area. These ports may be holes or hanging strips of sheet that overlap so that they form a sufficient seal while also allowing easy access to the patient when pushed aside. The bottoms of the sheet may contain weights to hold the sheet down. There is the possibility of including filters or positive/negative air flow ports. The entire device may be disposable. The frame may be solid, or the frame may pop open like an enclosure or umbrella. The device may also have straps that can be tightened underneath the bed or stretcher to secure the entire device in place.
AN ADAPTER FOR A FACE MASK, AND AN INSTRUMENT SHIELDING APPARATUS FOR SHIELDING AN INSTRUMENT BEING ENTERED INTO A SUBJECT THROUGH A FACE MASK OR A TROCAR
A face mask (90) comprises an instrument shielding apparatus (91) which comprises an instrument shielding device (92) which is connected to the face mask (90) by an adapter (89). The adapter (89) comprises an instrument accommodating housing (15) through which an instrument bore (25) extends therethrough. The instrument accommodating housing (15) terminates at one end in a first main port (20) engageable with an instrument port (7) of the face mask (90), and in the other end in a second main port (23). The instrument shielding device (92) comprises a shielding sleeve (95) a first end (96) of which is secured by a coupling ring (98) to the second main port (23) of the adapter (89), and a second end (97) of which is secured in a storage chamber (94) of a sleeve storing housing (93) of the instrument shielding device (92). The sleeve storing housing (93) is sealably engageable with a proximal end (58) of an endoscope (10), and the shielding sleeve extends from a collapsed stored state in the storage chamber (94) to the adapter (89) for shielding the endoscope (10).
Head and Facial Protective Device
Embodiments disclosed herein include devices and methods of using devices for protecting a face and/or head of an individual receiving medical treatment in a supine or reclined position. The device includes a body having a top portion with an exterior surface and a base portion with an interior surface. The top portion includes opposing side edges, the base portion includes opposing bottom side edges extending outwardly from the top side edges. The base portion is flexible and is configured to wrap partially around the individual’s head, while an aperture extends between the exterior surface and the interior surface to provide access to at least one of the individual’s eyes, nose, or mouth. A strap spans the side edges, wraps behind the base portion and the individual’s head, and detachably couples to the exterior surface along a plurality of connection positions along the side edges.
STERILE SURGICAL DRAPE FOR USE WITH A C-ARM X-RAY MACHINE
The invention is generally directed to a sterile surgical drape designed to provide a sterile barrier with a self-contained, expandable sterile pocket. The sterile surgical drape includes a pocket sized and shaped to accommodate the C-arm of an X-ray machine. The pocket spans the width of the operative site and includes an elastic band along a top edge to ensure that the pocket does not drop below the sterile field when not in use. In this way, the pocket is maintained around the C-arm and the sterile field is preserved during use. The surgical drape can optionally include an adhesive antimicrobial strip configured with an elongated length. The surgical drape can further optionally include one or more pouches sized and shaped to retain surgical instruments or tools.
