A teething apparatus includes a water-resistant housing containing a controller and a power source and communication means and a plurality of sensors in communication with the surface of the housing arranged and configured to detect at least pH and at least one volatile organic compound. Each of the plurality of sensors is in data communication with the controller and the controller is capable of communication with an external device via communication means. The apparatus may be a component of a larger system and may be used in a method including the steps of providing a teething apparatus to an oral cavity of an infant, establishing a data connection between the teething apparatus and a remote device, and relaying information from the teething apparatus to the remote device, the information comprising the qualitative measurement of one or more volatile organic compounds and the quantitative value of pH in the oral cavity.

Determining diaper loading using color detection or activity state

Systems and methods for detecting determining a volume of urine in an absorbent article such as a diaper. A diaper loading application obtains a first measurement of ambient light received from a photodetector while a light source is off and a second measurement from the photodetector while the light source is transmitting light on an absorbent article. The application determines a normalized measurement of light reflected from an absorbent article by removing an ambient light signal from the second measurement based on the first measurement. The application determines, from the normalized measurement, a presence of urine in the absorbent article. The application further determines an estimated volume of urine in the absorbent article, wherein the determining is based on an elapsed time since the presence of urine and an activity state of an infant wearing the absorbent article.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR BREATH MONITORING MATTRESS
20170347950 · 2017-12-07 ·

A new approach is proposed that contemplates system and method to support breath monitoring of a person via a plurality of breathing sensors embedded in a mattress the person is resting on. Once activated, each of the breathing sensors is configured to detect breathing activities or body movements caused by the breathing activities of a person lying on the mattress and report the breathing activities detected as electronic signals to a breathing monitor. Upon accepting the signals from the breathing sensors embedded in the mattress, the breathing monitor is configured to identify a breathing pattern based on the breathing activities of the person and detect any abnormal change in the breathing pattern of the person. If such abnormal change is detected, the breathing monitor is configured to generate and provide an alert to a monitoring party/caregiver of the person and/or produce an alarm to wake up the person in sleep.

A wheezing detection apparatus includes a breathing sound detection unit that detects a breathing sound of a measurement subject and acquires a breathing sound signal in a time series expressing the breathing sound. The wheezing detection apparatus includes a determination processing unit that, in each pre-determined processing unit period, converts the breathing sound signal into a frequency space to acquire a frequency spectrum of the breathing sound, and based on a height and a width of a peak in the frequency spectrum, determines whether or not the peak indicates wheezing.
