Systems and methods for detecting magnetic markers for surgical guidance

A detection system and method uses an implantable magnetic marker comprising at least one piece of a large Barkhausen jump material (LBJ). The marker is deployed to mark a tissue site in the body for subsequent surgery, and the magnetic detection system includes a handheld probe to excite the marker below the switching field for bistable switching of the marker causing a harmonic response to be generated in a sub-bistable mode that allows the marker to be detected and localised. The marker implanted may also be shorter than the critical length required to initiate bistable switching of the LBJ material.

Device and method for determining depth and concentration of a subsurface fluorescent object

A method and device for determining the depth and fluorophore concentration of a fluorophore concentration below the surface of an optically absorbing and scattering medium suitable for use in fluorescence-based surgical guidance such as in tumor resection is described. Long-wavelength stimulus light us used to obtain deep tissue penetration. Recovery of depth is performed by fitting measured modulation amplitudes for each spatial frequency to precomputed modulation amplitudes in a table of modulation amplitudes indexed by optical parameters and depth.

Medical device suspension system having cable management assembly

A medical device suspension system includes a spindle extending along a longitudinal axis and a cable management cover surrounding the spindle. A gap is formed between the cable management cover and the spindle. A hub is rotatably mounted to the spindle and includes a housing. A top hub cover is disposed along the longitudinal axis between the hub and the cable management cover and defines an end of the gap, the top hub cover including a passage in fluid communication with an internal volume of the housing. The top hub cover is rotatable with respect to the spindle about the longitudinal axis. A cable is provided within the gap, the cable entering the gap at a fixed location about the longitudinal axis and passing into the housing through the passage. Rotation of the top hub cover about the longitudinal axis causes the passage to rotate about the longitudinal axis.

Cancer treatment methods using thermotherapy and/or enhanced immunotherapy
11660229 · 2023-05-30 ·

A method of therapy for a tumor or other pathology by administering thermotherapy or a combination of thermotherapy and immunotherapy optionally combined with gene delivery. The combination therapy beneficially treats the tumor and prevents tumor recurrence, either locally or at a different site, by boosting the patient's immune response both at the time of original therapy and/or for later therapy. The therapy may further include the administration of a vaccine.

A step of extracting components of one or more frequency bands from a first section of an EEG; a step of calculating a first index for each of the components of one or more frequency bands, wherein the first index is calculated based on a degree to which a magnitude of each of the components of one or more frequency bands with respect to a magnitude of a predetermined reference component in the first section exceeds a predetermined threshold value; a step of calculating a probability value for each of one or more patient statuses from the first index for each of the components of one or more frequency bands using a trained artificial neural network; and a step of determining the consciousness level of the patient based on the probability value for each of the one or more calculated patient statuses.

SYSTEM FOR STIMULATING RENAL NERVES
20230157758 · 2023-05-25 ·

A system is provided for stimulating renal nerves. The system includes an interstitial device to provide stimulation and denervation of the renal nerves from outside the renal artery. The interstitial device extends through non-vascular tissue and into a periarterial space. The system also includes a control unit in communication with the interstitial device, configured to: obtain, from a sensor, first information pertaining to a blood pressure or heart rate; stimulate, using one or more electrodes of the interstitial device, renal sympathetic nerves associated with the renal artery; and obtain, from the sensor, second information pertaining to the blood pressure or heart rate of the subject. Based on a difference between the first information and the second information, the control unit determines whether the subject is suitable for a sympathetic denervation procedure and causes the interstitial device to perform the sympathetic denervation procedure if the subject is suitable.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR INTRAOPERATIVELY MEASURING ANATOMICAL ORIENTATION
20230157782 · 2023-05-25 ·

Systems and methods are disclosed in which changes in the position and/or orientation of an anatomical structure or of a surgical tool can be measured quantitatively during surgery. In some embodiments, the systems and methods disclosed herein can make use of inertial motion sensors to determine a position or orientation of an instrument or anatomy at different times and to calculate changes between different positions or orientations. In other embodiments, such sensors can be utilized in conjunction with imaging devices to correlate sensor position with anatomical landmarks, thereby permitting determination of absolute angular orientation of a landmark. Such systems and methods can facilitate real-time tracking of progress during a variety of procedures, including, e.g., spinal deformity correction, etc.

ORTHOGONALLY ISOLATED EXCITER WITH FIELD STEERING

Provided herein are systems, devices, assemblies, and methods for generating exciter signals, for example, to activate a remotely located tag. The systems, devices, assemblies, and methods find use in a variety of application including medical applications for the locating of a tag in a subject.

Method for Treating Tissue

Methods for treating tissue are provided. In one embodiment, an adjunct material, when secured to tissue, can receive at least one physiological element released from the tissue during healing progression of the tissue, and can exhibit first and second stiffnesses in compression that are approximately constant during first and second time periods from contact with the tissue, with the second stiffness decreasing with time as a function of at least one of oxidation, enzyme-catalyzed hydrolysis, and change of pH resulting from interaction with the at least one physiological element. In another embodiment, the adjunct can receive a unit volume of fluid that causes first and second portions of the adjunct to expand according to first and second expansion behaviors that differ from one another to apply different pressures to the tissue.
