Method and apparatus for laser induced thermo-acoustical streaming of liquid

A laser induced thermo-acoustical system has a waveguide for propagating laser radiation to an absorbing layer of a tip. The tip has an absorbing layer serving to absorb the laser radiation propagating through the waveguide. The absorbing layer has such an absorption coefficient that upon absorbing the laser radiation the absorbing layer heats up to boil a quantity of a liquid when the tip is surrounded by the liquid. A laser induced thermo-acoustical method calls for providing a waveguide for propagating laser radiation to the absorbing layer of the tip to be at least partially absorbed by the absorbing layer and to boil a quantity of the liquid surrounding the tip and generating the stream of liquid. The laser induced thermo-acoustical streaming of the liquid is used, in particular, for the treatment of a root canal and periodontal pockets.

SYSTEM AND METHODS FOR PREVENTATIVE DENTAL HARD TISSUE TREATMENT WITH A LASER

This disclosure relates to various systems and methods related to preventative laser-based treatment of a dental tissue; for example, to prevent a patient from forming cavities. In some instances, a laser-based treatment system can generate a laser beam pulse with a fluence profile at a treatment site that results in either an increase in acid resistance of the tissue or removal of carbonate from the tissue, without melting or ablating the tissue. In some instances, the laser-based treatment system can direct the laser beam to various locations within a treatment site according to a temporal and/or spatial pattern, that results in either an increase in acid resistance of the tissue or removal of carbonate from the tissue, without melting or ablating the tissue. Many other systems and techniques for preventative and other laser-based treatment are also described.

PHYSIOLOGICAL MEASUREMENT DEVICE USING LEDS
20180296098 · 2018-10-18 ·

A wearable device includes a measurement device adapted to be placed on a wrist or ear having a light source with LEDs to measure physiological parameters. The measurement device generates an optical beam having a near infrared wavelength between 700-2500 nanometers by modulating the LEDs, and lenses to deliver the beam to tissue, which reflects the beam to a receiver having spectral filters in front of spatially separated detectors coupled to analog to digital converters that generate at least two receiver outputs. Signal-to-noise ratio of the beam reflected from the tissue is improved by comparing the receiver outputs, and by increasing light intensity from the LEDs. The receiver is synchronized to the modulation of the LEDs and uses a lock-in technique that detects the modulation frequency. The measurement device generates an output signal representing a non-invasive measurement on blood within the tissue.
