Automated dental drill

An automated dental drill includes an end effector, including a dental tool for disposition at least partially in a patient's mouth and to perform an operation on a tooth. A tooth clamp releasably rigidly attaches to at least one tooth. A drive assembly is controlled by a processor and positions the end effector with a first at least three degrees of freedom, relative to the tooth clamp. The drive assembly remains outside the patient's mouth. A clamp connector connects the tooth clamp to the drive assembly. With the tooth clamp coupled to the drive assembly and the tooth clamp attached to the at least one tooth, position and orientation of the drive assembly remain fixed, relative to the at least one tooth. A passive cantilever arm, mechanically coupled between a support structure and the drive assembly, has a second at least three degrees of freedom and supports the drive assembly.

A head assembly for a dental contra-angle hand-piece and a dental contra-angle hand-piece are provided. The head assembly includes a hand-piece main body, a reversing valve movably connected to the hand-piece main body, and an inner water tube connected to the hand-piece main body, wherein the hand-piece main body is provided with a first flow channel and a second flow channel independent from each other, the first flow channel is configured to be in communication with a liquid outlet of a motor, and the second flow channel is configured to be in communication with an external pipeline; the reversing valve is provided with a confluence channel, the reversing valve is configured to enable, when moving relative to the hand-piece main body, the first flow channel and the second flow channel to alternatively be in communication with the inner water pipe through the confluence channel.

The head is joined to the grip such that, of an angle formed between a rotation axis of the cutting tool and a major axis of a coupling portion of the grip which is coupled to the head, an angle on a cutting edge side of the cutting tool is an obtuse angle.

DENTAL HANDPIECE

The dental handpiece has a handle and a housing with a first light-emitting diode and a first optical sensor. The housing also has a second light-emitting diode, a second optical sensor, shielding windows for each optical and apertures for supplying compressed air to each shielding window. A diffuser is located in each aperture, the diffuser being adapted to generate an air jet forming an air curtain. The dental handpiece can provide a reliable protection of the optical sensors by the air curtain and a high-quality three-dimensional image of an oral cavity during manipulation.

The end effector is positioned on the end effector drive support. The automated dental drill also includes a power source that drives the end effector and is coupled to the end effector and a one or more degrees of freedom drive assembly to direct the end effector along one or more degrees of freedom relative to the mouthpiece housing section.
