Protective covers and methods of manufacture and use
A cover includes a film, a composite layer, and an edge wrap. The composite layer has a first fibrous layer connected to the film, scrim, and a second fibrous layer. The first fibrous layer has a hydrophilicity, the scrim has a hydrophilicity that is less than the hydrophilicity of the first fibrous layer, and the second fibrous layer has a hydrophilicity less than the hydrophilicity of the scrim. The edge wrap surrounds a portion of the film and a portion of the composite layer. The edge wrap has a nonwoven layer having a hydrophilicity greater than the hydrophilicity of the first fibrous layer, a covering, and an edge seal.
BUNDLE OF TUBULAR AND/OR ROD SHAPED GLASS ARTICLES, METHOD FOR ITS FABRICATION AS WELL AS FOR UNPACKING SAID BUNDLE
A bundle of tubular and/or rod-shaped glass articles is provided that includes a longest dimension, a plurality of layers (N.sub.L) of the glass articles, and a thread-like element. The longest dimension extends in a first direction. The glass articles in each layer are arranged side by side in a second direction. The plurality of layers are arranged side by side in a third direction. The first, second, and third directions being perpendicular to one another. The thread-like element is around two of the glass articles in at least one layer so that the two glass articles are spaced apart.
SEALANT PACKAGING AND METHOD
An improved sealant packaging and method for use with sealing joints and cracks in pavement and parking lots is provided. Liquid sealant material is poured by volume into a container draped with a sheet. Container is cooled so that the sealant becomes a solid block, with the sheet adhered to the sides of the sealant block such that the sheet forms a container for the sealant. The sheet also acts a release liner for easily removing the sealant block from the container. Two or more contained blocks are stacked together, forming a package of two or more blocks self-sealed by sheets. When the package is placed in a melting kettle, heat migrates through the spaces between the individual sealant blocks and allows the smaller sealant blocks to melt quickly and evenly. Sheet and film melt with sealant material and are incorporated therein to form the final sealant product.
HIGH-SHRINK, HIGH-STRENGTH MULTILAYER FILM
A multilayer, heat-shrinkable film has a first portion containing an outer heat seal layer and a second portion containing a PVDC barrier layer and a second outer layer comprising polyester. Both film portions comprise polymer networks which are strained by solid-state orientation, but only the first portion contains a crosslinked polymer network. The film has (i) a total free shrink at 85° C. of at least 90% and (ii) an instrumented impact energy-to-break of at least 0.0.65 J/mil and/or an instrumented impact peak load of at least 70 N/mil. The film is primarily made from ethylene-based polymers. Packaging articles can be made by sealing the film to itself. The film comprises no polyamide or polyamide in an amount up to 10 wt %, on a total film weight basis.
HIGH-SHRINK, HIGH-STRENGTH PACKAGING ARTICLE EXHIBITING DIRECTIONAL TEAR
A packaging article comprises a heat-shrinkable film having a total free shrink at 85° C. of at least 90%. The film has an inside seal layer, an outside polyester layer, and an inner oxygen barrier layer. A portion of the film contains a crosslinked polymer network. At least one film layer comprises an incompatible polymer blend. The article has tear initiators. The package provides post-shrink, full-length tear from the tear initiators to the opposite edge of the article, for easy product removal. The film has an instrumented impact energy-to-break of at least 0.65 J/mil, and/or an instrumented impact peak load strength of at least 66 Newtons/mil, and/or Truburst strength of at least 8 psi/mil.
FILM, PACKAGE AND METHOD FOR CHEESE RIPENING AND PRESERVATION
The present invention relates to a method, to a biodegradable film and to a package for cheese ripening or preservation, in particular for ripening hard or semi-hard cheese, preferably rind cheese. This method, thanks to the peculiar transmission properties of the film, provides cheese more similar to naturally ripened cheese, with a minor loss of water, due to evaporation, with reduced mold and yeast growth, and without significant flavor, consistency and color deviations.
Polyester label and packaging container
The inventive label is prepared from a polyester with an intrinsic viscosity of 0.58 dl/g or more. The label has a base film with a thickness of 8-30 m and a difference in specific heat capacity Cp between temperatures lower and higher than Tg of 0.2 J/(g.Math. C.) or more. The label has a tensile elongation at break of 5% or more in both a main shrinkage direction and an orthogonal direction. A difference between the absorbancy ratio (absorbancy at 1340 cm.sup.1/absorbancy at 1410 cm.sup.1) in the main shrinkage direction of the label and the absorbancy ratio in the direction orthogonal to the main shrinkage direction of the label is 0.2 or more. The label has a difference between a maximum value and a minimum value of a length in a vertical direction of the label of 3 mm or less.
HEAT-SHRINKABLE FILM, HEAT SHRINK LABEL, AND PACKAGE
The invention provides a heat-shrinkable film that has (1) a glass transition temperature (Tg) of 90-140 C.; (2) shrinkage of 12% or less in a main shrinkage direction when treated in glycerin at 80 C. for 10 seconds; (3) shrinkage of 12% or less in a direction orthogonal to the main shrinkage direction when treated in glycerin at 140 C. for 10 seconds; (4) shrinkage of 30%-80% in the main shrinkage direction when treated in glycerin at 140 C. for 10 seconds; (5) a tensile elongation at break of 10% or more both in the main shrinkage direction and the orthogonal direction after aging of 672 hours at 50 C. and 70% RH; and (6) a difference of 5% or less between shrinkage at 140 C. in the main shrinkage direction after aging of 672 hours at 50 C. and 70% RH, and shrinkage at 140 C. in the main shrinkage direction before the aging.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT
This invention relates the use of cortisol blockers (glucocorticoid receptor [GR] antagonists) for the treating or preventing treatment resistant prostate cancer, treating or preventing neoplasia, and treating or preventing infection related to acute or chronic injury or disease.
