The present invention provides coated films and packages formed from such films. In one aspect, a partially coated film comprises (a) a film having two outer surfaces, wherein a first outer surface is provided by a film layer that comprises from 70 to 100 percent by weight of a polyolefin having a density of 0.860 to 0.965 g/cm.sup.3; and (b) a coating on the first outer surface of the film comprising polyurethane, wherein the coating covers less than 25% of the surface area of the first outer surface of the film and wherein the coated portion of the film exhibits an Elmendorf tear in at least one of the machine direction or cross direction that is at least 20% less than the Elmendorf tear of the uncoated portion in the same direction, with the Elmendorf tear being measured in accordance with ASTM D1922.

The handle (12) has an upper handle portion (12a) and a pair of spaced-apart legs (13, 15). The legs extend from the upper handle portion to the body on opposing sides of the neck. The flexible container includes a fitment (70) sealed to the neck. The flexible container includes a dispensing pump (100) attached to the fitment. The flexible container can provide a metered dose from a dispensing pump and the dispensing pump can also function as a handle to hand-carry the flexible container.

A flat-bottomed bag is formed from a flexible sheet that initially is flat prior to being manipulated to form the bag. The sheet is a laminate of a first web and a second web laminated together by an adhesive layer disposed between the webs. The sheet defines a plurality of serially connected side wall panels collectively defining a vertically extending side wall of the bag, and a plurality of bottom panels respectively connected to the side wall panels at respective fold lines. The bottom panels are folded about the fold lines and are attached together to form a flat bottom wall configured to support the bag in an upright orientation. The adhesive layer is in a partial-coverage pattern that includes adhesive-free regions located along each fold line between each bottom panel and the respective side wall panel connected therewith.

In another form, the inner support handle piece extends from the outside periphery of the fitment and is external to the flexible pouch body, but is secured to the periphery of the flexible pouch body with one or more outer sleeves or loops.

Spouted pouch adapted to be filled with a flowable product and method of production thereof

In combination a spouted pouch to be filled with a flowable product by a filling machine, a plug, and a cap. The interference fit plug is releasably mounted over the top end of the neck of the spout body and hermetically seals the product passage of the spout body. The plug is adapted to be removed by the filling machine and to be replaced by pressing the plug onto the neck after filling of the pouch. The plug removal, filling, and replacing of the plug are preferably performed in an aseptic environment. The cap is after the filling of the pouch and the replacing of the plug onto the neck. The capping is preferably performed by a capping machine in a non-aseptic environment.
