Straw choppers for an articulated harvesting combine

Straw chopper assemblies are provided for a harvesting combine of the type having a rotor and cage threshing assembly. The straw chopper assemblies are located on each side of the rotor discharge for accepting material exiting the rotor. Each straw chopper assembly is formed from a curvilinear cage having and interior opening to accept the rotor discharged material, and an opening to distribute chopper straw outside of the harvesting combine. A rotating knife assembly is housed within each curvilinear cage. A stationary knife assembly is movable for the rotating knives to pass between adjacent pairs of stationary knives. Outlets are provided in material communication with the curvilinear cage openings for discharging chopped straw onto the ground adjacent to the harvesting combine. Hoods are located over each of the outlets to directing the discharged chopped straw onto the ground.

A debris removal system for an agricultural harvester may include an extractor having an extractor housing defining a central airflow channel for directing debris through the extractor from a central inlet to a central outlet. The extractor housing may further define an outer airflow channel surrounding the central airflow channel. The outer airflow channel may define a flow path between an outer housing inlet and an outer airflow outlet. Additionally, the extractor housing may include an internal divider wall extending between the central and outer airflow channels. Moreover, the system may include at least one flow-generating device provided in operative association with the housing. The flow-generating device(s) may be configured to generate an airflow directed through the outer airflow channel, wherein the airflow generates a negative pressure within the central airflow channel that draws the debris into the extractor housing via the central airflow inlet.

This module is advantageous in that it allows for considerable reduction of the cutting forces or pressure, and consequently allows for smooth operation and considerably increased working life of the module.

Plant trimming apparatus and methods

An apparatus for trimming plant material includes a rotatable tumbler through which the plant material is to be axially propagated while rotationally tumbling, and a plurality of cutting reel systems adjacent the tumbler. The plurality of cutting reel systems includes a first cutting reel system adjacent the tumbler, and a second cutting reel system adjacent a landing zone of the rotatable tumbler. The landing zone is an angular range about the axis of the tumbler within which plant material tends to land on the tumbler after tumbling through a central volume of the tumbler.

Plant trimming apparatus and methods

An apparatus for trimming plant material includes a rotatable tumbler through which the plant material is to be axially propagated while rotationally tumbling, and a plurality of cutting reel systems adjacent the tumbler. The plurality of cutting reel systems includes a first cutting reel system adjacent the tumbler, and a second cutting reel system adjacent a landing zone of the rotatable tumbler. The landing zone is an angular range about the axis of the tumbler within which plant material tends to land on the tumbler after tumbling through a central volume of the tumbler.
