Transportable refrigerated container and method of distribution of perishable goods

A transportable refrigerated container has an interior chamber sub-divided into separate compartments by movable partitions that allow free air circulation to maintain the compartments at the same temperature and a plurality of security doors in at least one of the sides of the container, each door affording access only to a selected respective compartment or group of compartments. A method of distributing perishable goods from a supply depot to a plurality of customers utilizes such a container. At the supply depot, goods for different customers are loaded into separate compartments and the container is then transported to a location convenient to all the customers. There, delivery drivers who can each only open a door leading to a compartment containing goods intended for a specific customer, transfer the goods from the compartment onto a smaller vehicle and deliver them to their respective customer.

Some embodiments provide a retail delivery locker system comprising: multiple delivery lockers comprising: a housing enclosing an interior product cavity; a door enabling access to the product cavity; first and second docking couplers each configured to securely dock with a docking station and a docking coupler of another locker; and a communication link between the first and second docking couplers; and multiple docking stations each comprising: a locker coupler configured to secure a locker with the docking station; a station control circuit that obtains a first locker identifier from a first locker, confirms the first locker is scheduled to dock with a docking station, and authorize the locking of the docking station with the first docking coupler; and a transceiver enabling the station control circuit to communicate with a remote central control system.

A shipping container includes walls, one or more doors, a locking device and a security device. At least one door is movable between an open position and a closed position. The locking device is configured to secure the at least one door in its closed positioned. The locking device defines an opening and includes a first fastener and a second fastener. At least one of the fasteners is attached to the door. The security device is insertable through the opening of the locking device. The security device includes a first wing substantially covering the first fastener and a second wing substantially covering the second fastener to substantially prevent access to the first fastener and the second fastener when the security device is inserted through the opening of the locking device. The shipping container is comprised of an exterior box encasing an interior box enclosing a food refrigeration chamber. Spaced apart exterior and interior walls on the interior box create compartments for cooling material such as dry ice. Cooling material is selectively placed in the cooling compartments to control the temperature in the refrigeration chamber without electricity or other external power source. The cooling compartments are vented to the outside of the cooling container to avoid exposure of the refrigeration chamber to gases produced by dissipating cooling material. The shipping container is skid mounted and has lifting lugs for attachment to lifting slings.

The localized device or system communicates the position of the opening member to a remote device or system at a location remote from the transportable container. The remote device or system is capable of providing remote monitoring and control functions or actions at the transportable container depending on the communicated position of the opening member.
