Orthodontic gripping device
11304780 · 2022-04-19 · ·

The present invention relates to an orthodontic gripping device having a body made of a superelastic metal alloy, cold worked titanium beta III, or solution heat treated and aged titanium beta III. The body has first and second, spaced apart arm portions connected to each other. Each arm portion includes a jaw portion having an inner, arch wire-gripping, surface. The inner gripping surfaces are disposed opposite one another in spaced relation with a station defined therebetween for receiving the arch wire. At least a portion of the station is sized smaller than the arch wire. The arm portions are resiliently deflectable outwardly away from each other to admit the arch wire into the station. Once seated in the station, the arch wire is tightly held by inner gripping surfaces so as to resist displacement of the gripping device relative to the arch wire.

An aligner including a feature positioned on or in at least one of the buccal sidewall or lingual sidewall of the aligner that is configured to attach to an elastic member. The aligner applies a greater corrective force to a patient's dentition when the elastic member is attached. The feature may include a protrusion in the sidewall with an opening to a space configured to receive and attach to an elastic member hook coupled to the elastic member. The feature may include a through-bore in the sidewall that is configured to receive and attach to the elastic member. The feature may include an add-on hook on the sidewall that is configured to receive and attach to the elastic member. The add-on hook may be positioned on a protrusion in the sidewall. The protrusion may receive and engage with a dental attachment positioned on a surface of a patient's tooth.

INDIRECT BONDING TRAYS, NON-SLIDING ORTHODONTIC APPLIANCES, AND REGISTRATION SYSTEMS FOR USE THEREOF

Non-sliding orthodontic appliances may include an archwire having male fasteners for locking in place with brackets in a non-sliding manner and interproximal loops for exerting forces on the brackets. Appropriate forces may be calculated according to vectors between initial and ideal tooth positions. The brackets may be transferred to a patient's teeth using indirect bonding trays which contain slots for holding and aligning each bracket. The trays may include integrated handles for facilitating handling, may be sectioned into smaller pieces for easier application, and/or may be labeled for facilitating proper registration. Superposition of a digital placement plan and clinical model after bonding may illustrate the accuracy of bracket placement. The archwire may comprise atraumatic ends to avoid patient discomfort. A color registration system can be used to facilitate the attachment of the archwire to the brackets. The archwire may be locked into place with the brackets using crimpable stops.

A storage case for a dental appliance includes a storage portion, a cover, and a location device. The storage portion includes a compartment that is configured to store a dental appliance of a user. The cover is coupled to the storage portion and configured to selectively move between an open position and closed position. The cover permits access to the compartment when in the open position and restricts access to the compartment when in the closed position. The location device includes a communications device and a speaker. The speaker is configured to generate a sound based on the communications device receiving a signal from a mobile device of the user.

System and method for determining a target orthodontic force

A system and method for determining a target orthodontic force are provided. A method includes receiving patient data associated with a patient and including patient characteristic data and patient treatment data including one or both of a tooth type indicator and a tooth position indicator associated with a tooth of the patient to be corrected. Periodontal ligament (PDL) behavior data including or being based on force measurement data points and corresponding displacement measurement data points having been measured in-vivo while applying a force to a tooth of a human or animal subject and associated with at least a subset of the patient data is retrieved. A target orthodontic force value that is specific to the patient data is determined by inputting the PDL behavior data into an algorithm which determines the target orthodontic force based on the PDL behavior data and the target orthodontic force value is output.

DENTAL APPLIANCE HOOK PLACEMENT AND VISUALIZATION

Provided herein are systems and methods for determining hook and or positioning feature placements during dental treatment planning. A patient's dentition may be scanned and/or segmented. A target tooth may be identified. Hook and or positioning feature placement may be determined based on satisfying manufacturing and clinical constraints. The hook or positioning features can be input into a dental treatment planning system.
