Orthodontic aligner with isolated segments

An orthodontic aligner includes a first plastic segment having a first shape that fits over a first portion of a dental arch of a patient, a second plastic segment having a second shape that fits over a second portion of the dental arch of the patient, and a connector that joins the first plastic segment to the second plastic segment. The connector is configured to be disposed along a lingual side of one or more additional teeth of the patient without exerting a clinically significant force on the one or more additional teeth. The connector spans a gap between the first plastic segment and the second plastic segment, the gap corresponding to the one or more additional teeth that are not to receive the clinically significant force. The connector includes a flexible material that will perform at least one of flex, move or change shape responsive to applied forces.

Systems and methods for constructing a three-dimensional model from two-dimensional images

Systems and methods for generating a three-dimensional (3D) model of a user's dental arch based on two-dimensional (2D) images of dental impressions include a model training system that provides a machine learning model using training image(s) of a dental impression of a respective dental arch and a 3D training model of the respective dental arch. A model generation system receives first image(s) of a first dental impression of a user's dental arch and second image(s), which may be of the first dental impression or a second dental impression of the dental arch. The model generation system generates a first and second 3D model of the dental arch by applying the first image(s) and second image(s) to the machine learning model.

METHOD AND COMPUTER PROGRAM FOR DESIGNING STRAIGHTENING ALIGNERS

A method and computer program for designing straightening aligners are disclosed. The method for designing straightening aligners according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention includes generating current alignment information representing a patient's current tooth alignment state, and generating orthodontic alignment information for multiple orthodontic steps that are reached sequentially by correcting the current alignment information, wherein generating the orthodontic alignment information sets the multiple orthodontic steps such that the total sum of orthodontic forces applied to the patient's teeth per one orthodontic step is less than or equal to a preset total sum of orthodontic forces in order to reach a tooth alignment state corresponding to the orthodontic alignment information of each orthodontic step.

For improving the quality of use of intraoral orthodontic devices (1) such as dental splints (2) to be worn on teeth as well as for increasing their functionality, such devices (1) are fabricated at least in part, but preferably fully from bio-based materials (5). In particular when using a design featuring a cap layer (4) covering an inner stiff core (3) and including a bio-based material (5), which can be additionally chosen such that it can take-up a significant amount of liquid by swelling, both the micro-deformability of the device (1) can be improved—resulting in increased wearing comfort for the patient and less microplastic contamination for the patient through fossil-based plastic abrasions—and novel functions can be realized, for example releasing substances (9) such as drugs or flavor molecules or bio-based antimicrobial or protective agents from the device (1).
