SYSTEM AND PROCESS FOR ENHANCED OIL RECOVERY AND WELL ABANDONMENT

This disclosure relates to methods and systems for injecting and/or sequestering carbon-containing materials in underground wells, and, in some examples, for using the carbon-containing materials for enhanced oil recovery and well abandonment. An example method includes: obtaining a material comprising a carbon-containing liquid; optionally testing the material for compatibility with an underground well; optionally adjusting a property of the material to improve the compatibility; and providing the material for injection into the underground well.

An underground water storage system is installed with directional drilling techniques to dispose water conveying conduits within an aquifer. By conducting a pre-installation investigation of the aquifer, the conduits may be placed within the aquifer to increase the flow efficiency into the aquifer, such as orienting the position of the conduits to coincide with the orientation of the aquifer. The invention may have a system for preventing water invasion into the near surface soil layers, thereby preventing water instrusion which may be detrimental to desired surface uses for the land, such as agricultural, recreational, residential or commercial uses.

METHOD FOR REDUCING ENERGY AND WATER DEMANDS OF SCRUBBING CO2 FROM CO2-LEAN WASTE GASES

Methods and systems for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, including producing a waste gas stream comprising form greater than 0 vol % to less than 20 vol %, inclusive, carbon dioxide, pre-concentrating the waste gas stream to increase a concentration of carbon dioxide, producing a concentrated byproduct stream comprising more than 40 vol %, dissolving carbon dioxide contained in the concentrated byproduct stream in water, producing a dissolved byproduct stream and an undissolved byproduct stream, injecting the dissolved byproduct stream or a portion thereof into a reservoir containing mafic rock, and allowing components of the dissolved byproduct stream to react in situ with components of the mafic rock to precipitate and store components of the byproduct stream in the reservoir.

An example system is configured to manage the storage of water underground using a sensor-based grid system. The example system includes wells, each of which is between a surface and an underground formation capable of storing water received from the surface. The example system includes pumps, at least of which is associated with each well to force water from the surface, through the well, into the underground formation. The example system includes sensors, at least of which is associated with each well. The sensors are configured to communicate sensor data wirelessly. The example system also includes a computing system configured to receive sensor data from each of the sensors and to control operations of one or more of the pumps based on the sensor data.

Drain-back check valve assembly

A drain-back check valve assembly includes a body having a passageway with an inlet and an outlet. A bypass port extends from the passageway to an outer surface of the valve body. A main poppet valve assembly is disposed in the passageway and moveable between a closed position which prevents fluid flow from the outlet to the inlet and an open position which allows fluid flow from the inlet to the outlet. The main poppet valve assembly includes a poppet and a spool guide fixed to the poppet. The guide has a sidewall which includes a drain-back port. When the main poppet valve assembly is in the closed position, the drain-back port is aligned with the bypass port. When the main poppet valve assembly is in the opened position, the drain-back port is not aligned with the bypass port.

A water storage and management system takes water from a water source, such as captured run-off, and through a piping system, directs a flow of the water into an aquifer for storage and future utilization where the aquifer is located beneath a developed parcel of land having a surface use selected from a group consisting of agricultural, commercial, residential and recreational. The system may use moisture detectors to ascertain the water content of different layers or zones of the aquifer and reports this information to a digital processor. The digital processor may utilize this information to issue instructions to one or more control valves to direct the flow of the water into portions of the aquifer which have additional storage capacity. The digital processor may also instruct a submersible pump to withdraw from the aquifer as desired. This system is utilized in a method of banking groundwater from a remove location. Such groundwater storage may result in receipt of groundwater recharge credits.
